The most difficult aspect of prayer is making it a constant part of our daily life. With a bit of planning and effort, you can create your own prayer routine that is suitable for you and your schedule. The best part is, you can customize it to fit your personality and your spiritual beliefs.
Let’s be real, life can be busy and it’s easy for prayer to slide off the list of priorities. But just like anything other thing worth having, it requires dedication and discipline. That’s where developing a prayer routine comes in. It gives structure and accountability to make sure we are in contact with God on a an ongoing basis.
How do you begin? It’s the first thing to do is figure out what time of day works best for you to pray. Some people prefer to start their day with prayer, while others find it easier to pray in the evening before going to getting to bed. Experiment and see which method works best for you.
After you’ve decided on the most appropriate time to pray You can begin to establish a routine. Here’s an illustration of a typical daily routine for prayer in the morning:
Begin by approaching God and asking for his blessing while you read and pray.
Read a passage from the Bible and meditate on the passage. This can be accomplished by reading it three or four times, or writing down everything it reveals about yourself or guidelines to follow or promises to make.
Make your prayer a ritual by praying for adoration, confession as well as petition and thanksgiving. Make a prayer for your immediate needs and worries and then take time to sit in the presence of God.
The great thing about a prayer routine is that it is customizable to suit your needs. Many people might only have some minutes and others could have an hours or longer. The trick is to make it a regular part of your routine. If you don’t make it through one or two days, don’t sweat it! You can get back on track the next day.
The practice of daily prayer is a wonderful method to begin the new year with a renewed belief in the purpose of your life and a feeling of connection to the divine. It’s an effective way to start your day, placing your attention on the Lord and aligning your thoughts and actions with His will.
Another way to increase your prayer routine is to create a more interactive. Instead of just reciting phrases, try engaging with God in a deeper way. Use your imagination and try to imagine the scenes that are described within the Bible. Try to feel the emotions of the characters and place yourself in their shoes. This will make your prayer time more meaningful and personal.
You can also try incorporating various forms prayers into your routine. For instance, you can try silent prayer, contemplative prayer or even writing your prayers. This will prevent your prayer practice from becoming monotonous and add some variety to your daily spiritual routine.
One of the most effective methods to keep yourself motivated and on track with your daily prayer routine is sharing the practice with others. Find a accountability partner either a close friend or family member who can check in with you and encourage you to stick to your schedule. They can even be a part of your prayer and share their personal experiences.
The goal of a regular prayer routine is to increase your connection with God and ensure that your actions and thoughts are in line in accordance with His plans. It’s not about achieving perfection or following an unwritten set of guidelines, but rather being consistent and deliberate in your daily spiritual practice. Take the time to discover a prayer practice that you enjoy and set it as a priority in your day-to-day life.
