The most challenging aspect of praying is to make it a regular part of our life. However, with a amount of planning and effort, you can create an effective prayer schedule that works for you and your time. And the most appealing part is that you are able to modify the ritual to suit your personal preferences and your spiritual beliefs.
Let’s be real, life can be busy and it’s easy to let prayers slide off the priority list. Like everything else that’s worth having, it requires effort and discipline. This is where the creation of the habit of praying comes into. It provides an order and accountability to make sure we are connected to God on a an ongoing basis.
How do you begin? It’s the first thing to do is decide which time of the day is most conducive to you to pray. Some prefer to begin their day with prayer, while others find it easier to pray before going to bed. Experiment and see what works for you.
Once you’ve determined the best time for prayer, you can start building your daily routine. Here’s an example of a daily pattern for morning prayer:
Begin by approaching God and asking for his blessing as you read and meditate.
Take a chapter from the Bible and then meditate on it. It can be done by reading it three to four times, or writing down the things it says about yourself, the examples you can follow, instructions to follow or promises to claim.
Make your prayer a ritual by offering adoration, confession as well as petition and thanksgiving. Prayerfully address your immediate needs and worries, and take time to be in God’s presence.
The beauty of the prayer time routine is that it’s customizable to meet your requirements. Some people may only have a few minutes to spare and others could have an hours or longer. The key is making it a consistent element of your day-to-day routine. If you don’t make it through the occasional day or two do not fret! You can get back on track the following day.
The practice of daily prayer is an excellent opportunity to begin the new year with a fresh sense of purpose and spiritual connection with God. It’s an effective way to start your day, keeping your eyes to the Lord and aligning your thoughts and actions in accordance with His plan.
Another way to enhance your prayer routine is to enhance it by making it more interactive. Instead of reciting the words, you should try to connect with God in a deeper way. Make use of your imagination and try to imagine the scenes that are described within the Bible. Try to feel the emotions of the characters and put yourself in their shoes. This will make your prayer time more personal and meaningful.
It is also possible to incorporate various forms prayers into your routine. For instance, you can try silent prayer, contemplative prayer or even writing down your prayers. This can keep your prayer routine from becoming boring and will add variety to your spiritual routine.
One of the best ways to remain engaged and focused on your prayer practice is by sharing your practice with others. Find an accountability partner, a friend or family member who can check on you regularly and help you to stick to your daily routine. They may even be a part of your prayers and share their own experiences.
Remember, the goal of daily prayer is to strengthen your relationship with God and ensure that your actions and thoughts are in line in accordance with His plans. It’s not about perfection or adhering to an unwritten set of guidelines, but rather being intentional and consistent in your life of faith. Take the time to discover a prayer practice that you enjoy and set it as a priority in your day-to-day life.
