That’s where developing an effective prayer schedule comes in. It provides the structure and accountability needed to ensure we’re in contact with God on a a regular basis.
How do you begin? The first step is to decide the time of day that works best for you to pray. Some people prefer to start their day with prayer while others find it easier to pray before going to bed. Try it out and discover which method works best for you.
Once you’ve determined the best time for prayer, you can start building your daily routine. Here’s an illustration of a typical daily routine for prayer in the morning:
Begin by addressing God and asking for his blessing while you read and pray.
Read a passage from the Bible and meditate on it. This can be accomplished by reading it three or four times or by listing anything it tells you about yourself, or guidelines to follow or promises to keep.
Structure your prayer by making confession, adoration prayer, thanksgiving, and petition. Make a prayer for your immediate needs and worries, and take time to enjoy God’s presence.
The great thing about the prayer time routine is that it can be adapted to suit your needs. For some, you may have only a few minutes to spare, while others may be able to devote a whole time or even more. It’s important that you make this a consistent part of your routine. If you don’t make it through the occasional day or two Don’t be concerned! Just get back on track the next day.

Another way to increase your prayer practice is to enhance it by making it more engaging. Instead of simply reciting words, you should try to connect with God at a deeper level. Make use of your imagination and try to imagine the scenes that are described within the Bible. Try to feel the emotions of the characters and put yourself in their the shoes of their characters. This makes your time of prayer more meaningful and personal.
Try incorporating various forms in your prayer day-to-day routine. For example, try a silent prayers, contemplative prayers, or even journaling your prayers. This will prevent your prayer routine from becoming monotonous and add variety to your spiritual routine.
One of the most effective methods to keep yourself motivated and on track with your prayer practice is by sharing it with other people. Find a partner in accountability either a close friend or family member who will check on you regularly and help you to stick to your daily routine. They may even be a part of your prayer and share their own experiences.
