The most challenging aspect of prayer is making it a consistent element of our daily lives. With a bit of planning and effort you can develop your own prayer routine that is suitable for you and your time. And the best part is, you can customize the ritual to suit your personal preferences and spiritual tradition.
Let’s be real, life can be busy and it’s easy to let prayers get lost on the priority list. But just like anything else that’s worth having, it takes effort and discipline. This is where the creation of an effective prayer schedule comes in. It provides structure and accountability to ensure we’re in contact with God on a regularly.
So, how do you start? It’s the first thing to do is determine which time of the day is the most suitable time to pray. Some people prefer to start their day by praying, while others prefer to pray in the evening before going to going to bed. Try it out and discover which method works best for you.
Once you’ve identified the ideal time to pray then you can begin to build your routine. Here’s an example of a pattern that you can follow daily for morning prayers:
Begin by approaching God, ask for his blessing as you read and meditate.
Take a chapter from the Bible and meditate on it for a while. This can be done by reading it three or four times, or writing down everything it reveals about yourself, the examples you can follow, instructions to follow or promises to claim.
Structure your prayer by offering adoration, confession, petition, and thanksgiving. Pray for your immediate needs and worries as well as taking time to sit in the presence of God.
The best thing about praying is that it is customizable to suit your needs. For some, you may have only just a few minutes, while others may have a half an time or even more. The key is that you make this a consistent element of your day-to-day routine. If you fall off the occasional day or two, don’t sweat it! Get back on track for the next day.
The practice of daily prayer is a wonderful opportunity to begin this new year feeling a fresh feeling of purpose and connection with the divine. It’s a powerful way to begin your day by placing your attention upon the Lord and making sure that your actions and thoughts are aligned to His plans.
Another way to increase your prayer time is to enhance it by making it more interactive. Instead of just reciting phrases, try engaging with God on a deeper level. Try using your imagination to picture the scenes described by the Bible. Make an effort to experience the emotion of each character and put yourself in their the shoes of their characters. This can make your time in prayer more personal and meaningful.
It is also possible to incorporate various forms prayers into your daily routine. For example, try silent prayer, contemplative prayer, or even writing your prayers. This will prevent your prayer practice from becoming repetitive and provide the variety you need to your spiritual practice.
One of the best methods to keep yourself focused and in line with your daily prayer routine is sharing your practice with others. Find a partner in accountability, a friend or family member who will check in with you and encourage you to adhere to your routine. They could even join you in prayers and share their own experiences.
The goal of daily prayer is to strengthen your relationship with God and align your thoughts and actions in accordance with His plans.
