The most difficult aspect of prayer is to make it a regular part of our lives. With a bit of planning and effort, you can create your own prayer routine that is suitable with your lifestyle and schedule. The most appealing part is that you can customize it to fit your personality and your spiritual beliefs.
Let’s be real, life is hectic and it’s easy to let prayers slip down on the priority list. Like everything else worth having, it takes dedication and discipline. This is where the creation of the habit of praying comes into. It helps us establish a structure and accountability to ensure we’re in contact with God on a an ongoing basis.
So, how do you start? The first step is to determine which time of the day is the most suitable time to pray. Some people like to start their day with prayer while others find it easier to pray in the evening before going to getting to bed. Test and see what works for you.
After you’ve decided on the most appropriate time for prayer then you can begin building your daily routine. Here’s an example of a pattern that you can follow daily for prayer in the morning:
Begin by approaching God and asking for his blessing while you read and pray.
Read a passage from the Bible and reflect on it for a while. It can be done by reading the passage three to four times, or listing everything it reveals about yourself, or guidelines to obey or promises to keep.
Structure your prayer by making confession, adoration, petition, and thanksgiving. Prayerfully address your urgent needs and concerns, and take time to enjoy God’s presence.
The great thing about the prayer time routine is that it can be adapted to suit your needs. Some people may only have a few minutes to spare while others might have an time or even more. It’s important that you make this a constant part of your daily routine. And if you miss the occasional day or two Don’t be concerned! Just get back on track for the next day.
An everyday prayer practice is a great opportunity to begin your new year off with a renewed sense of purpose and spiritual connection with God. It’s a powerful method to start your day, placing your attention to the Lord and aligning your thoughts and actions to His plans.
Another way to increase your prayer time is to make it more interactive. Instead of just reciting words, try to engage with God in a deeper way. Use your imagination and try to visualize the scenes in the Bible. Make an effort to experience the emotion of each character and put yourself in their the shoes of their characters. This makes your time of prayer more personal and meaningful.
You can also try incorporating different forms in your prayer day-to-day routine. For example, try a silent prayer, contemplative prayer, or even writing down your prayers. This will keep your prayer routine from becoming boring and will add the variety you need to your spiritual practice.
One of the best methods to keep yourself motivated and on track with your daily prayer routine is sharing it with others. Find an accountability partner, a family member or friend member who can check on you regularly and help you to adhere to your daily routine. They may even be a part of your prayer and share their personal experiences.
The goal of a daily prayer practice is to strengthen your relationship with God and make sure that your thoughts and actions are aligned with His will. It’s not about achieving perfection or following an unwritten set of rules, it’s about being consistent and deliberate in your spiritual life. Therefore, make the effort to discover a prayer practice that is a good fit for you and make it a priority within your everyday life. You’ll be amazed by how much difference it makes in your spiritual growth as well as overall wellbeing.
