Are you willing to take your spirituality to the highest level? One of the most effective ways to accomplish this is to establish a regular prayer routine.
Consider it your spiritual exercise, similar to like hitting the gym to stay fit, a daily prayer practice keeps your soul healthy and in tune with the divine.
The most challenging part of prayer is making it a constant part of our daily life. However, with a time and planning, you can create an effective prayer schedule that works for you and your schedule. The most appealing part is that you are able to modify the ritual to suit your personal preferences and spiritual tradition.
Let’s be real, life can be hectic and it’s easy for prayer to slip down on the list of priorities. Like everything other thing worth being a part of, it requires commitment and discipline. That’s where developing a prayer routine comes in. It gives the structure and accountability needed to ensure we’re connected to God on a an ongoing basis.
So, how do you start? The first step is to figure out the time of day that works best for you to pray. Some prefer to begin their day with prayer while others prefer to pray before going to going to bed. Test and see which method works best for you.
Once you’ve identified the ideal time to pray then you can begin to build your routine. Here’s an example of a daily pattern for morning prayers:
Begin by talking to God, ask for his blessing while you read and pray.
Read a passage from the Bible and then meditate on the passage. This can be done by reading it three or four times or by listing anything it tells you about yourself, or the examples you can follow, instructions to obey or promises to claim.
Your prayer should be structured by praying for adoration, confession as well as petition and thanksgiving. Make a prayer for your needs and pressing concerns and then take time to sit in the presence of God.
The great thing about a prayer routine is that it is customizable to fit your needs. Some people may only have just a few minutes and others could have a half an hours or longer. The trick is to make it a consistent part of your daily routine. And if you miss the occasional day or two do not fret! Get back on track the next day.
A daily prayer practice is a wonderful method to begin the new year with a fresh sense of purpose and spiritual connection with God. It’s a powerful method to start your day, putting your focus upon the Lord and aligning your thoughts and actions to His plans.
Another way to increase your prayer routine is to make it more interactive. Instead of simply reciting words, try to engage with God at a deeper level. Try using your imagination to imagine the scenes that are described by the Bible. Make an effort to experience the emotion of each character and put yourself in their shoes. This makes your time of prayer more meaningful and personal.
Try incorporating different forms in your prayer daily routine. For example, try a silent prayer, contemplative prayer or even writing your prayers. This will keep your prayer routine from becoming monotonous and add some variety to your daily spiritual routine.
One of the most effective ways to stay motivated and on track with your daily prayers is sharing it with other people. Find an accountability partner, a friend or family member who will check in with you and help you to keep to your schedule. They can even be a part of your prayer and share their own experiences.
The goal of daily prayer is to deepen your relationship with God and align your thoughts and actions to His plan. It’s not about perfectionism or adhering to a strict set of guidelines, but rather being deliberate and consistent in your daily spiritual practice. Therefore, make the effort to find a prayer routine that works for you and set it as a priority within your everyday life. You’ll be amazed at the difference it can make in your spiritual growth as well as overall wellbeing.
