Are you willing to take your spiritual journey to the highest level? One of the most effective ways to accomplish this is by developing a daily prayer practice.
Think of it as your spiritual exercise, similar to as you workout to stay in shape, regular prayer will keep your soul strong and connected to the divine.
The most challenging part of praying is making it a constant part of our daily lives. However, with a time and planning it is possible to create an effective prayer schedule that works for you and your time. The best part is, you get to customize it to fit your personality and religious tradition.
Let’s be real, life can be hectic and it’s easy to let prayer get lost on the list of priorities. Like everything else that’s worth having, it takes dedication and discipline. This is where the creation of a prayer routine comes in. It gives the structure and accountability needed to ensure we’re connecting with the divine on an ongoing basis.
How do you start? The first step is to figure out what time of day is most conducive to you to pray. Some people prefer to start their day by praying, and others prefer to pray at night before getting to bed. Try it out and discover what works for you.
Once you’ve identified the ideal time for prayer, you can start building your daily routine. Here’s an example of a pattern that you can follow daily for morning prayer:
Begin by approaching God to ask for his help as you read and meditate.
Take a chapter from the Bible and then meditate on the passage. This can be done by reading the passage three to four times, or listing anything it tells you about yourself or the examples you can follow, instructions to obey or promises to make.
Your prayer should be structured by praying for adoration, confession as well as petition and thanksgiving. Pray for your immediate needs and worries as well as taking time to sit in the presence of God.
The great thing about the prayer time routine is that it can be adapted to suit your needs. For some, you may have only a few minutes to spare while others might be able to devote a whole hour or more. The key is that you make this a regular part of your routine. If you don’t make it through one or two days do not fret! Just get back on track the following day.
An everyday prayer practice is a wonderful opportunity to begin this new year feeling a renewed sense of purpose and feeling of connection to the divine. It’s an effective way to begin your day by keeping your eyes on the Lord and aligning your thoughts and actions to His plans.
Another way to enhance your prayer routine is to enhance it by making it more interactive. Instead of just reciting words, try to engage with God in a deeper way. Use your imagination and try to picture the scenes described within the Bible. Make an effort to experience the emotion of each character and put yourself in their shoes. This will make your prayer time more personal and meaningful.
It is also possible to incorporate different types of prayer into your day-to-day routine. For instance, you can try silent prayer, contemplative prayer, or even journaling your prayers. This can keep your prayer routine from becoming repetitive and provide variety to your spiritual routine.
One of the most effective ways to remain engaged and focused on your daily prayer routine is sharing it with others. Find an accountability partner either a close friend or family member who can check in with you and help you to keep to your daily routine. They can even be a part of your prayers and share their own experiences.
Rememberthat the purpose of a regular prayer routine is to deepen your relationship with God and align your thoughts and actions with His will. It’s not about perfectionism or adhering to the strict guidelines, but rather being deliberate and consistent in your life of faith. Therefore, make the effort to create a routine of prayer that works for you and set it as a priority in your day-to-day life. You’ll be amazed by how much difference it makes on your spiritual growth as well as overall wellbeing.
