Life can be busy and it’s easy for prayer to get lost on the list of priorities. However, just like everything else that’s worth being a part of, it requires effort and discipline. That’s where developing the habit of praying comes into. It gives structure and accountability to ensure we’re connected to God on a regularly.
How do you begin? It’s the first thing to do is figure out which time of the day is most conducive to you to pray. Some people prefer to start their day with prayer, while others prefer to pray before going to bed. Try it out and discover what works for you.
Once you’ve identified the ideal time for prayer then you can begin to establish a routine. Here’s an illustration of a typical daily routine for morning prayers:
Begin by talking to God to ask for his blessing as you read and meditate.
Read a passage from the Bible and then meditate on the passage. It can be done by reading the passage three to four times, or writing down the things it says about yourself, or the examples you can follow, instructions to obey or promises to make.
Make your prayer a ritual by offering adoration, confession prayer, thanksgiving, and petition. Make a prayer for your immediate needs and worries as well as taking time to be in God’s presence.
The great thing about praying is that it is customizable to meet your requirements. Some people may only have just a few minutes and others could be able to devote a whole hours or longer. The trick is to make it a regular element of your day-to-day routine. And if you miss a day or two do not fret! Just get back on track for the next day.
An everyday prayer practice is an excellent way to start your new year off with a fresh belief in the purpose of your life and a feeling of connection to the divine. It’s a powerful method to start your day, keeping your eyes to the Lord and making sure that your actions and thoughts are aligned with His will.
Another way to increase your prayer time is to enhance it by making it more interactive. Instead of simply reciting words, try to engage with God at a deeper level. Try using your imagination to imagine the scenes that are described within the Bible. You can try to imagine the feelings of these characters and put yourself in their the shoes of their characters. This will make your prayer time more meaningful and personal.
You can also try incorporating different types in your prayer routine. For example, try silent prayer, contemplative prayer, or even writing down your prayers. This can keep your prayer routine from becoming repetitive and provide some variety to your daily spiritual routine.
One of the most effective ways to remain focused and in line with your daily prayers is sharing the practice with others. Find a accountability partner, a friend or family member who will be checking in with you and help you to keep to your routine. They could even join you in prayers and share their own experiences.
The goal of daily prayer is to strengthen your relationship with God and make sure that your thoughts and actions are aligned to His plan. It’s not about perfection or adhering to the strict guidelines, but rather being deliberate and consistent in your life of faith.
