Let’s be real, life can be busy and it’s easy to let prayer get lost on the list of priorities. Like everything other thing worth being a part of, it requires dedication and discipline. This is where the creation of the habit of praying comes into. It helps us establish a structure and accountability to make sure we are connecting with the divine on an ongoing basis.
So, how do you start? First, you must figure out which time of the day is most conducive to you to pray. Some people prefer to start their day with prayer while others find it easier to pray before going to getting to bed. Test and see which method works best for you.
Once you’ve identified the ideal time for prayer then you can begin building your daily routine. Here’s an illustration of a typical daily routine for morning prayers:
Begin by approaching God and asking for his blessing while you read and pray.
Read a passage from the Bible and reflect on the passage. This can be done by reading it three to four times or by listing anything it tells you about yourself, examples to follow, commands to obey , or promises to claim.
Make your prayer a ritual by making confession, adoration, petition, and thanksgiving. Prayerfully address your immediate needs and worries as well as taking time to sit in the presence of God.
The best thing about praying is that it can be adapted to suit your needs. Many people might only have some minutes and others could have an hour or more. It’s important to make it a regular element of your day-to-day routine. If you fall off one or two days, don’t sweat it! Just get back on track the next day.
The practice of daily prayer is a great method to begin your new year off with a renewed belief in the purpose of your life and a feeling of connection to the divine. It’s a powerful way to start your day, keeping your eyes upon the Lord and making sure that your actions and thoughts are aligned with His will.
Another way to increase your prayer practice is to create a more interactive. Instead of simply reciting words, try to engage with God at a deeper level. Try using your imagination to picture the scenes described by the Bible. Try to feel the emotions of the characters, and put yourself in their shoes. This makes your time of prayer more personal and meaningful.
It is also possible to incorporate different types prayers into your daily routine. For example, try silent prayer, contemplative prayer, or even writing your prayers. This will keep your prayer routine from becoming repetitive and provide some variety to your daily spiritual routine.
One of the most effective ways to remain motivated and on track with your daily prayer routine is sharing your practice with others. Find a partner in accountability, a family member or friend member who will be checking on you regularly and help you to stick to your schedule. They may even join you in prayer and share their own experiences.
Remember, the goal of a regular prayer routine is to increase your connection with God and ensure that your actions and thoughts are in line with His will. It’s not about perfectionism or following a strict set of guidelines, but rather being intentional and consistent in your life of faith. Therefore, make the effort to discover a prayer practice that works for you and incorporate it in your day-to-day life. You’ll be amazed by how much difference it makes on your spiritual growth as well as overall wellbeing.
