This is where establishing the habit of praying comes into. It provides structure and accountability to make sure we are in contact with God on a regularly.
So, how do you begin? The first step is to figure out the time of day that is the most suitable time to pray. Some people like to start their day by praying, and others prefer to pray in the evening before going to getting to bed. Test and see which method works best for you.
Once you’ve identified the ideal time for prayer, you can start to build your routine. Here’s an illustration of a typical daily routine for morning prayers:
Begin by talking to God to ask for his presence as you read and meditate.
Go through a section of the Bible and then meditate on it for a while. This can be done by reading the passage three to four times, or writing down anything it tells you about yourself, the examples you can follow, instructions to follow or promises to keep.
Structure your prayer by offering adoration, confession, petition, and thanksgiving. Prayerfully address your urgent needs and concerns, and take time to sit in the presence of God.
The beauty of the prayer time routine is that it can be adapted to meet your requirements. For some, you may have only some minutes and others could have a half an hours or longer. The key is to make it a regular part of your routine. And if you miss one or two days do not fret! Get back on track the next day.
An everyday prayer practice is a great method to begin your new year off with a renewed sense of purpose and spiritual connection with God. It’s an effective way to begin your day by putting your focus to the Lord and aligning your thoughts and actions to His plans.
Another way to increase your prayer time is to enhance it by making it more interactive. Instead of just reciting words, try to engage with God at a deeper level. Try using your imagination to picture the scenes described by the Bible. Try to feel the emotions of the characters and put yourself in their the shoes of their characters. This will make your prayer time more personal and meaningful.
It is also possible to incorporate different forms in your prayer day-to-day routine. For example, try a silent prayer, contemplative prayer or even journaling your prayers. This will prevent your prayer practice from becoming boring and will add the variety you need to your spiritual practice.
One of the most effective methods to keep yourself motivated and on track with your prayer practice is by sharing the practice with other people. Find a partner in accountability either a close friend or family member who will be checking on you regularly and help you to adhere to your routine. They could even be a part of your prayer and share their personal experiences.
Rememberthat the purpose of a regular prayer routine is to strengthen your relationship with God and ensure that your actions and thoughts are in line to His plan. It’s not about perfectionism or following an unwritten set of rules, it’s about being intentional and consistent in your daily spiritual practice. So, take the time to discover a prayer practice that works for you and incorporate it within your everyday life. You’ll be amazed at the impact it has on your spiritual growth and overall health.
