The most challenging part of praying is to make it a regular part of our life. However, with a bit of planning and effort, you can create your own prayer routine that is suitable for you and your schedule. The best part is, you get to customize it to match your own personality and religious tradition.
Let’s be real, life can be hectic and it’s easy to let prayers get lost on the list of priorities. But just like anything else worth being a part of, it requires dedication and discipline. That’s where developing the habit of praying comes into. It provides an order and accountability to ensure we’re connecting with the divine on regularly.
So, how do you begin? It’s the first thing to do is figure out which time of the day is the most suitable time to pray. Some people like to start their day by praying, while others prefer to pray in the evening before going to bed. Test and see which method works best for you.
After you’ve decided on the most appropriate time to pray then you can begin to build your routine. Here’s an example of a pattern that you can follow daily for morning prayer:
Begin by approaching God and asking for his help as you read and pray.
Take a chapter from the Bible and reflect on it. This can be accomplished by reading it three to four times or by listing the things it says about yourself, or examples to follow, commands to follow or promises to keep.
Structure your prayer by making confession, adoration, petition, and thanksgiving. Prayerfully address your needs and pressing concerns as well as taking time to sit in the presence of God.
The great thing about the prayer time routine is that it is customizable to fit your needs. Many people might only have just a few minutes, while others may have an hour or more. The key is to make it a regular part of your daily routine. If you don’t make it through a day or two do not fret! Get back on track the following day.
A daily prayer practice is an excellent opportunity to begin the new year with a renewed feeling of purpose and connection with the divine. It’s a powerful way to start your day, placing your attention on the Lord and making sure that your actions and thoughts are aligned to His plans.
Another method to improve your prayer time is to make it more interactive. Instead of reciting the phrases, try engaging with God in a deeper way. Try using your imagination to visualize the scenes by the Bible. Try to feel the emotions of the characters and put yourself in their the shoes of their characters. This can make your time in prayer more personal and meaningful.
Try incorporating different forms of prayer into your daily routine. For example, try a silent prayers, contemplative prayers, or even writing your prayers. This can keep your prayer practice from becoming repetitive and provide some variety to your daily spiritual routine.
One of the best ways to remain motivated and on track with your prayer practice is by sharing it with others. Find a partner in accountability, a friend or family member who can check in with you and encourage you to adhere to your daily routine. They could even be a part of your prayers and share their own experiences.
The goal of daily prayer is to strengthen your relationship with God and make sure that your thoughts and actions are aligned to His plan. It’s not about perfection or adhering to a strict set of guidelines, but rather being intentional and consistent in your life of faith. Take the time to discover a prayer practice that is a good fit for you and incorporate it within your everyday life.
