It’s true that life can be hectic and it’s easy for prayer to get lost on the list of priorities. However, just like everything other thing worth having, it takes dedication and discipline. This is where establishing the habit of praying comes into. It helps us establish a structure and accountability to ensure we’re connected to God on a regularly.

How do you start? The first step is to determine what time of day is the most suitable time to pray. Some people prefer to start their day by praying, while others prefer to pray before going to going to bed. Test and see which method works best for you.

Once you’ve determined the best time to pray then you can begin to build your routine. Here’s an example of a pattern that you can follow daily for prayer in the morning:

Begin by addressing God to ask for his help while you read and pray.

Read a passage from the Bible and then meditate on the passage. It can be done by reading it three to four times or by listing anything it tells you about yourself, the examples you can follow, instructions to follow or promises to make.

Structure your prayer by praying for adoration, confession as well as petition and thanksgiving. Make a prayer for your urgent needs and concerns as well as taking time to sit in the presence of God.

The best thing about praying is that it can be adapted to suit your needs. Many people might only have a few minutes to spare and others could have a half an hour or more. It’s important making it a constant part of your daily routine. And if you miss a day or two do not fret! You can get back on track the following day.

The practice of daily prayer is an excellent way to start your new year off with a renewed feeling of purpose and spiritual connection with God. It’s a powerful way to start your day, putting your focus to the Lord and making sure that your actions and thoughts are aligned to His plans.

Another way to enhance your prayer time is to make it more interactive. Instead of reciting the words, you should try to connect with God in a deeper way. Make use of your imagination and try to picture the scenes described in the Bible. Try to feel the emotions of the characters, and put yourself in their position. This can make your time in prayer more personal and meaningful.

It is also possible to incorporate different forms in your prayer routine. For example, try silent prayer, contemplative prayer or even writing your prayers. This can keep your prayer routine from becoming monotonous and add variety to your spiritual routine.

One of the best methods to keep yourself engaged and focused on your daily prayers is sharing the practice with other people. Find a partner in accountability either a close friend or family member who can check on you regularly and help you to keep to your routine. They can even be a part of your prayer and share their own experiences.

Remember, the goal of a regular prayer routine is to increase your connection with God and align your thoughts and actions in accordance with His plans. It’s not about achieving perfection or following a strict set of guidelines, but rather being consistent and deliberate in your daily spiritual practice. Take the time to discover a prayer practice that works for you and make it a priority in your daily life. You’ll be amazed at the impact it has on your spiritual growth and overall well-being.
