Life can be hectic and it’s easy for prayer to slip down on the priority list. However, just like everything else that’s worth having, it requires dedication and discipline. This is where the creation of a prayer routine comes in. It gives an order and accountability to ensure we’re connected to God on a a regular basis.
How do you begin? First, you must decide what time of day is most conducive to you to pray. Some people like to start their day with prayer, and others prefer to pray in the evening before going to bed. Try it out and discover what works best for you.
Once you’ve identified the ideal time for prayer You can begin to build your routine. Here’s an example of a pattern that you can follow daily for morning prayer:
Begin by addressing God, ask for his blessing while you read and pray.
Read a passage from the Bible and meditate on the passage. It can be done by reading it three or four times, or writing down everything it reveals about yourself or examples to follow, commands to obey , or promises to keep.
Structure your prayer by offering adoration, confession prayer, thanksgiving, and petition. Pray for your needs and pressing concerns and then take time to be in God’s presence.
The best thing about the prayer time routine is that it can be adapted to fit your needs. Some people may only have a few minutes to spare while others might have an time or even more. The trick is making it a regular part of your daily routine. And if you miss one or two days do not fret! You can get back on track the next day.
The practice of daily prayer is an excellent opportunity to begin your new year off with a new feeling of purpose and spiritual connection with God. It’s a powerful method to begin your day by keeping your eyes to the Lord and making sure that your actions and thoughts are aligned with His will.
Another method to improve your prayer time is to make it more engaging. Instead of simply reciting words, try to engage with God on a deeper level. Use your imagination and try to imagine the scenes that are described by the Bible. Make an effort to experience the emotion of each character, and put yourself in their the shoes of their characters. This makes your time of prayer more meaningful and personal.
You can also try incorporating different forms in your prayer daily routine. For example, try a silent prayer, contemplative prayer or even journaling your prayers. This will prevent your prayer practice from becoming boring and will add some variety to your daily spiritual routine.
One of the best ways to stay focused and in line with your daily prayer routine is sharing it with other people. Find a partner in accountability either a close friend or family member who will be checking in with you and help you to stick to your routine. They could even be a part of your prayer and share their personal experiences.
The goal of daily prayer is to increase your connection with God and ensure that your actions and thoughts are in line with His will. It’s not about achieving perfection or following the strict rules, it’s about being intentional and consistent in your life of faith. Take the time to find a prayer routine that is a good fit for you and make it a priority in your daily life. You’ll be amazed at how much difference it makes in your spiritual growth as well as overall wellbeing.
