The most challenging aspect of praying is making it a constant part of our life. But with a little time and planning you can develop a prayer routine that works for you and your time. And the best part is, you are able to modify the ritual to suit your personal preferences and spiritual tradition.

It’s true that life can be busy and it’s easy to let prayer slide off the priority list. But just like anything else that’s worth being a part of, it requires dedication and discipline. That’s where developing the habit of praying comes into. It provides structure and accountability to ensure that we’re in contact with God on a regularly.

So, how do you get started? First, you must decide the time of day that is the most suitable time to pray. Some prefer to begin their day with prayer and others prefer to pray at night before going to bed. Experiment and see what works for you.

Once you’ve determined the best time for prayer, you can start to build your routine. Here’s an example of a daily pattern for morning prayers:

Begin by approaching God and asking for his help as you read and pray.

Take a chapter from the Bible and then meditate on the passage. It can be done by reading it three to four times, or listing the things it says about yourself, examples to follow, commands to obey or promises to make.

Make your prayer a ritual by offering adoration, confession prayer, thanksgiving, and petition. Pray for your needs and pressing concerns and then take time to be in God’s presence.

The great thing about praying is that it can be adapted to meet your requirements. For some, you may have only just a few minutes while others might be able to devote a whole hour or more. It’s important making it a constant part of your routine. If you don’t make it through a day or two, don’t sweat it! You can get back on track the following day.

The practice of daily prayer is a great way to start the new year with a renewed belief in the purpose of your life and a connection with the divine. It’s an effective way to start your day, placing your attention upon the Lord and aligning your thoughts and actions with His will.

Another method to improve your prayer routine is to make it more engaging. Instead of just reciting words, you should try to connect with God in a deeper way. Try using your imagination to picture the scenes described in the Bible. You can try to imagine the feelings of these characters and put yourself in their shoes. This can make your time in prayer more meaningful and personal.

You can also try incorporating different forms in your prayer routine. For example, try a silent prayer, contemplative prayer or even writing down your prayers. This will keep your prayer routine from becoming boring and will add variety to your spiritual routine.

One of the best ways to remain engaged and focused on your daily prayers is sharing your practice with other people. Find a partner in accountability, a friend or family member who will be checking in with you and encourage you to keep to your daily routine. They can even join you in prayer and share their own experiences.

The goal of a daily prayer practice is to strengthen your relationship with God and ensure that your actions and thoughts are in line to His plan. It’s not about perfectionism or adhering to the strict rules, it’s about being consistent and deliberate in your life of faith. Therefore, make the effort to find a prayer routine that you enjoy and set it as a priority in your daily life. You’ll be amazed by how much difference it makes for your spiritual development and overall well-being.
