The most challenging part of prayer is making it a consistent part of our daily life. However, with a time and planning it is possible to create your own prayer routine that is suitable for you and your time. And the greatest part is that you can customize it to match your own personality and spiritual tradition.
It’s true that life is hectic and it’s easy to let prayer slip down on the list of priorities. However, just like everything else worth being a part of, it requires commitment and discipline. This is where the creation of an effective prayer schedule comes in. It helps us establish a structure and accountability to ensure that we’re in contact with God on a a regular basis.
How do you start? It’s the first thing to do is decide which time of the day is the most suitable time to pray. Some people prefer to start their day by praying, while others prefer to pray before going to bed. Try it out and discover what works best for you.
Once you’ve identified the ideal time for prayer, you can start building your daily routine. Here’s an example of a daily pattern for morning prayer:
Begin by talking to God to ask for his help as you read and meditate.
Go through a section of the Bible and meditate on it. This can be done by reading it three to four times, or listing anything it tells you about yourself, examples to follow, commands to follow or promises to claim.
Structure your prayer by praying for adoration, confession, petition, and thanksgiving. Prayerfully address your needs and pressing concerns as well as taking time to enjoy God’s presence.
The great thing about a prayer routine is that it’s customizable to fit your needs. Some people may only have some minutes while others might be able to devote a whole hours or longer. It’s important to make it a constant part of your routine. If you don’t make it through the occasional day or two do not fret! You can get back on track for the next day.
A daily prayer practice is a great way to start this new year feeling a renewed feeling of purpose and connection with the divine. It’s an effective way to start your day, putting your focus upon the Lord and making sure that your actions and thoughts are aligned with His will.
Another way to enhance your prayer routine is to create a more engaging. Instead of just reciting words, you should try to connect with God at a deeper level. Use your imagination and try to visualize the scenes within the Bible. Make an effort to experience the emotion of each character and place yourself in their position. This makes your time of prayer more personal and meaningful.
Try incorporating different types in your prayer daily routine. For example, try silent prayer, contemplative prayer, or even journaling your prayers. This will prevent your prayer routine from becoming boring and will add the variety you need to your spiritual practice.
One of the most effective ways to remain engaged and focused on your prayer practice is by sharing it with other people. Find a accountability partner, a family member or friend member who will be checking in with you and encourage you to adhere to your routine. They could even join you in prayer and share their own experiences.
Remember, the goal of a daily prayer practice is to increase your connection with God and ensure that your actions and thoughts are in line to His plan. It’s not about achieving perfection or adhering to a strict set of rules, it’s about being deliberate and consistent in your life of faith. Therefore, make the effort to discover a prayer practice that is a good fit for you and incorporate it in your day-to-day life. You’ll be amazed at how much difference it makes in your spiritual growth as well as overall wellbeing.
