The most challenging part of praying is making it a constant part of our life. However, with a time and planning it is possible to create a prayer routine that works for you and your time. Let’s be real, life can be busy and it’s easy to let prayer slide off the priority list. However, just like everything other thing worth having, it takes commitment and discipline. This is where the creation of an effective prayer schedule comes in. It provides an order and accountability to ensure that we’re in contact with God on a regularly.
So, how do you start? The first step is to figure out what time of day is the most suitable time to pray. Some people like to start their day by praying, while others prefer to pray in the evening before going to bed. Experiment and see what works for you.
Once you’ve identified the ideal time to pray, you can start to build your routine. Here’s an example of a daily pattern for morning prayers:
Begin by approaching God to ask for his help as you read and pray.
Go through a section of the Bible and reflect on it. This can be done by reading it three to four times, or writing down the things it says about yourself, guidelines to obey , or promises to claim.
Structure your prayer by offering adoration, confession, petition, and thanksgiving. Prayerfully address your urgent needs and concerns, and take time to be in God’s presence.
The best thing about the prayer time routine is that it is customizable to fit your needs. Some people may only have just a few minutes while others might have an hours or longer. It’s important making it a consistent element of your day-to-day routine. If you don’t make it through one or two days, don’t sweat it! Get back on track the following day.
The practice of daily prayer is a wonderful way to start this new year feeling a renewed belief in the purpose of your life and a connection with the divine. It’s a powerful way to begin your day by placing your attention upon the Lord and aligning your thoughts and actions with His will.
Another method to improve your prayer practice is to enhance it by making it more engaging. Instead of reciting the words, try to engage with God in a deeper way. Make use of your imagination and try to picture the scenes described in the Bible. You can try to imagine the feelings of these characters and place yourself in their shoes. This will make your prayer time more meaningful and personal.
Try incorporating different forms in your prayer daily routine. For example, try silent prayer, contemplative prayer or even writing your prayers. This can keep your prayer practice from becoming boring and will add variety to your spiritual routine.
One of the best ways to remain engaged and focused on your prayer practice is by sharing your practice with others. Find a accountability partner either a close friend or family member who will check in with you and help you to keep to your routine. They can even be a part of your prayer and share their own experiences.
Remember, the goal of a regular prayer routine is to deepen your relationship with God and align your thoughts and actions with His will. It’s not about perfectionism or adhering to the strict rules, it’s about being consistent and deliberate in your life of faith. So, take the time to discover a prayer practice that you enjoy and set it as a priority in your day-to-day life. You’ll be amazed by the impact it has on your spiritual growth and overall health.
