This is where the creation of the habit of praying comes into. It provides an order and accountability to ensure we’re connected to God on a an ongoing basis.
How do you start? It’s the first thing to do is decide the time of day that is most conducive to you to pray. Some prefer to begin their day by praying, while others find it easier to pray before going to getting to bed. Test and see what works best for you.
After you’ve decided on the most appropriate time for prayer, you can start to establish a routine. Here’s an illustration of a typical daily routine for morning prayer:
Begin by talking to God and asking for his help as you read and pray.
Go through a section of the Bible and then meditate on it. It can be done by reading it three to four times, or listing anything it tells you about yourself or examples to follow, commands to obey or promises to make.
Structure your prayer by making confession, adoration as well as petition and thanksgiving. Make a prayer for your urgent needs and concerns, and take time to enjoy God’s presence.
The best thing about the prayer time routine is that it’s customizable to fit your needs. Many people might only have a few minutes to spare and others could be able to devote a whole hours or longer. It’s important making it a regular part of your routine. If you fall off the occasional day or two do not fret! Just get back on track for the next day.
The practice of daily prayer is an excellent method to begin your new year off with a fresh sense of purpose and connection with the divine. Another way to enhance your prayer time is to enhance it by making it more engaging. Instead of simply reciting words, you should try to connect with God on a deeper level. Try using your imagination to imagine the scenes that are described in the Bible. Try to feel the emotions of the characters and place yourself in their position. This can make your time in prayer more personal and meaningful.
Try incorporating various forms prayers into your routine. For example, try silent prayer, contemplative prayer, or even journaling your prayers. This will keep your prayer practice from becoming boring and will add the variety you need to your spiritual practice.
One of the best ways to stay motivated and on track with your daily prayers is sharing it with others. Find a partner in accountability, a family member or friend member who will check on you regularly and help you to keep to your schedule. They may even join you in prayer and share their own experiences.
