The most difficult aspect of praying is making it a consistent part of our daily life. However, with a bit of planning and effort, you can create a prayer routine that works for you and your schedule. The best part is, you can customize it to match your own personality and spiritual tradition.
Life can be busy and it’s easy to let prayers slip down on the priority list. But just like anything other thing worth having, it requires effort and discipline. This is where establishing an effective prayer schedule comes in. It provides structure and accountability to ensure we’re connected to God on a regularly.
How do you start? It’s the first thing to do is determine the time of day that is the most suitable time to pray. Some prefer to begin their day by praying, while others find it easier to pray before going to going to bed. Try it out and discover what works for you.
After you’ve decided on the most appropriate time for prayer, you can start to establish a routine. Here’s an example of a daily pattern for morning prayer:
Begin by addressing God and asking for his blessing as you read and pray.
Go through a section of the Bible and meditate on it for a while. This can be done by reading the passage three to four times or by listing anything it tells you about yourself, the examples you can follow, instructions to follow or promises to make.
Structure your prayer by making confession, adoration, petition, and thanksgiving. Pray for your immediate needs and worries, and take time to sit in the presence of God.
The best thing about the prayer time routine is that it is customizable to meet your requirements. For some, you may have only some minutes and others could have a half an time or even more. It’s important to make it a regular part of your daily routine. If you don’t make it through a day or two do not fret! You can get back on track the next day.
An everyday prayer practice is an excellent opportunity to begin your new year off with a new belief in the purpose of your life and a connection with the divine. It’s an effective way to begin your day by putting your focus to the Lord and aligning your thoughts and actions with His will.
Another method to improve your prayer routine is to make it more engaging. Instead of just reciting words, try to engage with God in a deeper way. Use your imagination and try to picture the scenes described within the Bible. Make an effort to experience the emotion of each character and place yourself in their shoes. This makes your time of prayer more personal and meaningful.
Try incorporating different types of prayer into your day-to-day routine. For example, try silent prayer, contemplative prayer or even writing down your prayers. This will keep your prayer routine from becoming boring and will add the variety you need to your spiritual practice.
One of the most effective ways to remain focused and in line with your prayer practice is by sharing the practice with others. Find a accountability partner either a close friend or family member who will be checking on you regularly and help you to stick to your routine. They can even join you in prayer and share their personal experiences.
Rememberthat the purpose of a regular prayer routine is to deepen your relationship with God and make sure that your thoughts and actions are aligned in accordance with His plans. It’s not about perfection or adhering to the strict guidelines, but rather being deliberate and consistent in your life of faith. Therefore, make the effort to create a routine of prayer that you enjoy and set it as a priority within your everyday life. You’ll be amazed by how much difference it makes on your spiritual growth as well as overall wellbeing.
