The most challenging aspect of praying is making it a constant part of our lives. But with a little time and planning you can develop your own prayer routine that is suitable for you and your time. The most appealing part is that you can customize it to match your own personality and spiritual tradition.
Let’s be real, life is hectic and it’s easy to let prayer slide off the list of priorities. However, just like everything else worth having, it takes commitment and discipline. That’s where developing a prayer routine comes in. It gives an order and accountability to make sure we are connecting with the divine on an ongoing basis.
How do you get started? It’s the first thing to do is figure out what time of day is the most suitable time to pray. Some people prefer to start their day by praying, while others prefer to pray before going to getting to bed. Test and see what works best for you.
Once you’ve identified the ideal time for prayer You can begin to build your routine. Here’s an example of a daily pattern for prayer in the morning:
Begin by talking to God to ask for his presence as you read and pray.
Read a passage from the Bible and then meditate on the passage. It can be done by reading the passage three to four times, or writing down the things it says about yourself, examples to follow, commands to obey or promises to make.
Your prayer should be structured by praying for adoration, confession as well as petition and thanksgiving. Prayerfully address your urgent needs and concerns as well as taking time to sit in the presence of God.
The beauty of the prayer time routine is that it can be adapted to fit your needs. For some, you may have only a few minutes to spare, while others may have a half an hours or longer. The key is that you make this a consistent part of your routine. If you don’t make it through the occasional day or two, don’t sweat it! Just get back on track the following day.
The practice of daily prayer is a great opportunity to begin your new year off with a new sense of purpose and feeling of connection to the divine. It’s a powerful method to begin your day by keeping your eyes upon the Lord and aligning your thoughts and actions to His plans.
Another method to improve your prayer time is to make it more engaging. Instead of just reciting words, try to engage with God at a deeper level. Use your imagination and try to picture the scenes described within the Bible. Try to feel the emotions of the characters and place yourself in their shoes. This makes your time of prayer more personal and meaningful.
You can also try incorporating different types prayers into your day-to-day routine. For instance, you can try silent prayer, contemplative prayer, or even writing down your prayers. This can keep your prayer routine from becoming boring and will add some variety to your daily spiritual routine.
One of the most effective ways to remain engaged and focused on your daily prayers is sharing it with others. Find a accountability partner, a friend or family member who can check in with you and help you to adhere to your schedule. They may even be a part of your prayer and share their personal experiences.
The goal of a daily prayer practice is to strengthen your relationship with God and ensure that your actions and thoughts are in line to His plan. It’s not about perfectionism or adhering to the strict rules, it’s about being deliberate and consistent in your spiritual life. So, take the time to find a prayer routine that works for you and incorporate it within your everyday life. You’ll be amazed at the impact it has in your spiritual growth and overall health.
