Are you looking to take your spirituality to the highest level? One of the most effective ways to do that is to establish a regular prayer practice.
Think of it as your spiritual exercise, similar to like hitting the gym to stay in shape, a daily prayer practice will keep your soul strong and connected to the Divine.
The most challenging part of prayer is to make it a regular part of our daily lives. With a time and planning it is possible to create a prayer routine that works for you and your schedule. And the most appealing part is that you are able to modify the ritual to suit your personal preferences and spiritual tradition.
Let’s be real, life can be busy and it’s easy to let prayers get lost on the list of priorities. Like everything other thing worth being a part of, it requires dedication and discipline. That’s where developing the habit of praying comes into. It gives an order and accountability to make sure we are connected to God on a an ongoing basis.
How do you get started? The first step is to decide what time of day works best for you to pray. Some prefer to begin their day by praying, while others prefer to pray before going to bed. Try it out and discover what works best for you.
Once you’ve identified the ideal time for prayer then you can begin to establish a routine. Here’s an example of a daily pattern for morning prayers:
Begin by addressing God and asking for his blessing while you read and pray.
Take a chapter from the Bible and meditate on the passage. It can be done by reading the passage three to four times or by listing everything it reveals about yourself, examples to follow, commands to obey , or promises to claim.
Make your prayer a ritual by offering adoration, confession as well as petition and thanksgiving. Prayerfully address your needs and pressing concerns as well as taking time to be in God’s presence.
The great thing about the prayer time routine is that it’s customizable to fit your needs. For some, you may have only just a few minutes and others could be able to devote a whole time or even more. The key is making it a constant part of your routine. If you fall off the occasional day or two, don’t sweat it! You can get back on track for the next day.
The practice of daily prayer is a great way to start this new year feeling a fresh belief in the purpose of your life and a spiritual connection with God. It’s a powerful way to begin your day by keeping your eyes on the Lord and making sure that your actions and thoughts are aligned with His will.
Another way to increase your prayer practice is to enhance it by making it more interactive. Instead of reciting the words, you should try to connect with God at a deeper level. Use your imagination and try to visualize the scenes by the Bible. You can try to imagine the feelings of these characters and put yourself in their the shoes of their characters. This makes your time of prayer more personal and meaningful.
You can also try incorporating various forms in your prayer routine. For instance, you can try silent prayer, contemplative prayer, or even journaling your prayers. This will keep your prayer routine from becoming boring and will add some variety to your daily spiritual routine.
One of the best methods to keep yourself focused and in line with your daily prayer routine is sharing the practice with others. Find a partner in accountability, a family member or friend member who can check in with you and help you to stick to your schedule. They may even be a part of your prayer and share their own experiences.
Remember, the goal of a regular prayer routine is to deepen your relationship with God and ensure that your actions and thoughts are in line to His plan. It’s not about perfectionism or adhering to an unwritten set of rules, it’s about being consistent and deliberate in your spiritual life. So, take the time to create a routine of prayer that works for you and set it as a priority within your everyday life. You’ll be amazed at the difference it can make for your spiritual development as well as overall wellbeing.
