The most difficult aspect of prayer is making it a constant element of our daily lives. But with a little time and planning you can develop your own prayer routine that is suitable with your lifestyle and schedule. The best part is, you are able to modify it to fit your personality and your spiritual beliefs.
Life is hectic and it’s easy to let prayers slide off the priority list. However, just like everything else that’s worth having, it requires effort and discipline. This is where the creation of the habit of praying comes into. It helps us establish a an order and accountability to ensure we’re in contact with God on a an ongoing basis.
How do you get started? First, you must determine the time of day that works best for you to pray. Some prefer to begin their day with prayer while others prefer to pray in the evening before going to getting to bed. Try it out and discover what works best for you.
Once you’ve identified the ideal time for prayer You can begin to establish a routine. Here’s an example of a daily pattern for morning prayers:
Begin by approaching God and asking for his blessing while you read and pray.
Go through a section of the Bible and then meditate on it. This can be done by reading the passage three to four times, or writing down everything it reveals about yourself or examples to follow, commands to obey or promises to claim.
Structure your prayer by praying for adoration, confession, petition, and thanksgiving. Make a prayer for your urgent needs and concerns as well as taking time to sit in the presence of God.
The beauty of the prayer time routine is that it is customizable to suit your needs. For some, you may have only some minutes while others might have an hours or longer. The trick is making it a constant element of your day-to-day routine. If you don’t make it through one or two days, don’t sweat it! Just get back on track the following day.
An everyday prayer practice is a great way to start this new year feeling a renewed sense of purpose and connection with the divine. It’s a powerful method to start your day, putting your focus to the Lord and aligning your thoughts and actions in accordance with His plan.
Another way to enhance your prayer practice is to enhance it by making it more engaging. Instead of simply reciting words, try to engage with God on a deeper level. Use your imagination and try to imagine the scenes that are described in the Bible. Try to feel the emotions of the characters and put yourself in their shoes. This makes your time of prayer more personal and meaningful.
You can also try incorporating different forms in your prayer daily routine. For instance, you can try silent prayer, contemplative prayer or even journaling your prayers. This will prevent your prayer routine from becoming repetitive and provide the variety you need to your spiritual practice.
One of the most effective ways to remain motivated and on track with your daily prayers is sharing your practice with others. Find a partner in accountability, a friend or family member who will be checking in with you and help you to keep to your schedule. They can even join you in prayer and share their personal experiences.
Rememberthat the purpose of a regular prayer routine is to strengthen your relationship with God and make sure that your thoughts and actions are aligned in accordance with His plans. It’s not about achieving perfection or adhering to the strict guidelines, but rather being consistent and deliberate in your life of faith. Therefore, make the effort to discover a prayer practice that works for you and make it a priority within your everyday life. You’ll be amazed by how much difference it makes for your spiritual development and overall health.
