Life is hectic and it’s easy to let prayer get lost on the list of priorities. But just like anything else worth being a part of, it requires commitment and discipline. This is where establishing a prayer routine comes in. It provides the structure and accountability needed to make sure we are connected to God on a a regular basis.
How do you begin? First, you must determine the time of day that works best for you to pray. Some people prefer to start their day with prayer, while others prefer to pray before going to bed. Experiment and see what works best for you.
After you’ve decided on the most appropriate time for prayer, you can start building your daily routine. Here’s an illustration of a typical daily routine for prayer in the morning:
Begin by approaching God, ask for his help as you read and meditate.
Go through a section of the Bible and reflect on it. It can be done by reading it three or four times or by listing anything it tells you about yourself, or the examples you can follow, instructions to obey or promises to keep.
Make your prayer a ritual by praying for adoration, confession, petition, and thanksgiving. Prayerfully address your immediate needs and worries as well as taking time to enjoy God’s presence.
The beauty of praying is that it is customizable to fit your needs. Some people may only have just a few minutes while others might have an hours or longer. The trick is to make it a consistent element of your day-to-day routine. If you don’t make it through the occasional day or two Don’t be concerned! Just get back on track for the next day.
The practice of daily prayer is a wonderful way to start this new year feeling a fresh feeling of purpose and spiritual connection with God. It’s a powerful way to begin your day by keeping your eyes upon the Lord and aligning your thoughts and actions with His will.
Another way to increase your prayer practice is to make it more engaging. Instead of simply reciting words, try to engage with God on a deeper level. Use your imagination and try to imagine the scenes that are described within the Bible. You can try to imagine the feelings of these characters, and put yourself in their shoes. This makes your time of prayer more personal and meaningful.
It is also possible to incorporate different forms prayers into your day-to-day routine. For example, try a silent prayer, contemplative prayer, or even journaling your prayers. This will prevent your prayer practice from becoming boring and will add variety to your spiritual routine.
One of the best methods to keep yourself focused and in line with your daily prayer routine is sharing the practice with other people. Find an accountability partner either a close friend or family member who can check in with you and help you to keep to your daily routine. They can even join you in prayers and share their own experiences.
The goal of a regular prayer routine is to increase your connection with God and align your thoughts and actions in accordance with His plans. It’s not about perfection or adhering to an unwritten set of rules, it’s about being consistent and deliberate in your spiritual life. Take the time to create a routine of prayer that is a good fit for you and incorporate it in your day-to-day life.
