The most difficult aspect of praying is making it a constant element of our daily lives. With a time and planning it is possible to create an effective prayer schedule that works for you and your schedule. The most appealing part is that you get to customize it to fit your personality and your spiritual beliefs.
Let’s be real, life can be busy and it’s easy for prayer to get lost on the priority list. But just like anything other thing worth having, it takes commitment and discipline. This is where establishing a prayer routine comes in. It helps us establish a structure and accountability to ensure we’re connected to God on a regularly.
How do you begin? The first step is to decide which time of the day is most conducive to you to pray. Some people prefer to start their day by praying, while others prefer to pray in the evening before going to bed. Test and see what works for you.
Once you’ve determined the best time to pray then you can begin to build your routine. Here’s an example of a pattern that you can follow daily for morning prayers:
Begin by talking to God to ask for his presence as you read and pray.
Take a chapter from the Bible and then meditate on it for a while. This can be done by reading the passage three to four times, or listing anything it tells you about yourself, or examples to follow, commands to obey , or promises to make.
Structure your prayer by making confession, adoration, petition, and thanksgiving. Pray for your urgent needs and concerns and then take time to sit in the presence of God.
The great thing about praying is that it’s customizable to fit your needs. For some, you may have only some minutes while others might be able to devote a whole time or even more. It’s important making it a consistent element of your day-to-day routine. If you don’t make it through a day or two Don’t be concerned! Just get back on track the next day.
The practice of daily prayer is a wonderful way to start your new year off with a fresh feeling of purpose and feeling of connection to the divine. It’s a powerful method to begin your day by keeping your eyes upon the Lord and making sure that your actions and thoughts are aligned to His plans.
Another way to enhance your prayer routine is to make it more interactive. Instead of just reciting words, try to engage with God on a deeper level. Try using your imagination to picture the scenes described within the Bible. Make an effort to experience the emotion of each character and place yourself in their shoes. This makes your time of prayer more meaningful and personal.
Try incorporating different types prayers into your routine. For example, try a silent prayer, contemplative prayer or even writing your prayers. This will prevent your prayer practice from becoming repetitive and provide the variety you need to your spiritual practice.
One of the best ways to remain motivated and on track with your prayer practice is by sharing your practice with other people. Find an accountability partner, a friend or family member who can check in with you and help you to keep to your daily routine. They can even join you in prayer and share their own experiences.
Remember, the goal of a regular prayer routine is to increase your connection with God and make sure that your thoughts and actions are aligned to His plan. It’s not about achieving perfection or adhering to the strict guidelines, but rather being intentional and consistent in your spiritual life. So, take the time to discover a prayer practice that is a good fit for you and make it a priority within your everyday life. You’ll be amazed by how much difference it makes for your spiritual development as well as overall wellbeing.
