The most appealing part is that you can customize it to match your own personality and religious tradition.
Life can be busy and it’s easy to let prayer slip down on the list of priorities. However, just like everything else worth having, it takes commitment and discipline. This is where the creation of a prayer routine comes in. It helps us establish a structure and accountability to ensure that we’re connecting with the divine on regularly.
So, how do you begin? It’s the first thing to do is decide what time of day works best for you to pray. Some people prefer to start their day by praying, and others prefer to pray before going to bed. Try it out and discover which method works best for you.
Once you’ve determined the best time to pray then you can begin to build your routine. Here’s an example of a pattern that you can follow daily for morning prayer:
Begin by approaching God and asking for his presence while you read and pray.
Read a passage from the Bible and reflect on it. This can be accomplished by reading it three or four times or by listing the things it says about yourself, or guidelines to obey or promises to keep.
Structure your prayer by making confession, adoration as well as petition and thanksgiving. Pray for your needs and pressing concerns, and take time to sit in the presence of God.
The great thing about the prayer time routine is that it’s customizable to fit your needs. Many people might only have just a few minutes and others could have an hour or more. It’s important making it a constant element of your day-to-day routine. And if you miss a day or two, don’t sweat it! Get back on track the following day.
A daily prayer practice is a great method to begin your new year off with a new feeling of purpose and feeling of connection to the divine. It’s a powerful method to begin your day by keeping your eyes upon the Lord and aligning your thoughts and actions to His plans.
Another method to improve your prayer time is to make it more engaging. Instead of reciting the phrases, try engaging with God on a deeper level. Make use of your imagination and try to imagine the scenes that are described within the Bible. You can try to imagine the feelings of these characters and place yourself in their shoes. This makes your time of prayer more meaningful and personal.
Try incorporating different forms in your prayer routine. For example, try silent prayer, contemplative prayer or even writing down your prayers. This can keep your prayer practice from becoming boring and will add the variety you need to your spiritual practice.
One of the most effective ways to stay focused and in line with your daily prayer routine is sharing it with other people. Find a partner in accountability, a family member or friend member who will be checking in with you and encourage you to adhere to your daily routine. They could even be a part of your prayer and share their personal experiences.
Remember, the goal of a daily prayer practice is to strengthen your relationship with God and ensure that your actions and thoughts are in line with His will. It’s not about achieving perfection or adhering to an unwritten set of rules, it’s about being consistent and deliberate in your life of faith. So, take the time to discover a prayer practice that is a good fit for you and make it a priority in your day-to-day life. You’ll be amazed by how much difference it makes for your spiritual development as well as overall wellbeing.
