The most challenging part of prayer is making it a consistent element of our daily life. With a time and planning you can develop a prayer routine that works with your lifestyle and schedule. And the best part is, you get to customize it to match your own personality and your spiritual beliefs.

Let’s be real, life is hectic and it’s easy to let prayers get lost on the list of priorities. But just like anything else that’s worth having, it takes effort and discipline. This is where establishing a prayer routine comes in. It gives the structure and accountability needed to ensure we’re connecting with the divine on a regular basis.

How do you get started? The first step is to determine which time of the day works best for you to pray. Some prefer to begin their day with prayer, and others prefer to pray in the evening before going to getting to bed. Test and see what works for you.

Once you’ve determined the best time to pray, you can start to establish a routine. Here’s an example of a pattern that you can follow daily for morning prayers:

Begin by addressing God, ask for his help as you read and meditate.

Take a chapter from the Bible and then meditate on it for a while. It can be done by reading it three or four times, or listing anything it tells you about yourself or guidelines to obey or promises to claim.

Make your prayer a ritual by offering adoration, confession as well as petition and thanksgiving. Make a prayer for your immediate needs and worries and then take time to enjoy God’s presence.

The great thing about praying is that it can be adapted to suit your needs. For some, you may have only some minutes and others could have an hours or longer. It’s important to make it a constant element of your day-to-day routine. If you fall off the occasional day or two do not fret! Get back on track for the next day.

The practice of daily prayer is a great way to start this new year feeling a fresh belief in the purpose of your life and a connection with the divine. It’s a powerful way to start your day, placing your attention upon the Lord and making sure that your actions and thoughts are aligned to His plans.

Another method to improve your prayer time is to create a more engaging. Instead of reciting the words, try to engage with God on a deeper level. Make use of your imagination and try to picture the scenes described within the Bible. You can try to imagine the feelings of these characters and place yourself in their shoes. This will make your prayer time more meaningful and personal.

Try incorporating different forms prayers into your daily routine. For instance, you can try silent prayer, contemplative prayer or even journaling your prayers. This will prevent your prayer routine from becoming repetitive and provide some variety to your daily spiritual routine.

One of the most effective methods to keep yourself focused and in line with your daily prayer routine is sharing the practice with other people. Find an accountability partner, a friend or family member who will check in with you and help you to stick to your schedule. They may even be a part of your prayer and share their own experiences.

Remember, the goal of daily prayer is to increase your connection with God and make sure that your thoughts and actions are aligned in accordance with His plans. It’s not about perfectionism or following a strict set of rules, it’s about being intentional and consistent in your life of faith. Therefore, make the effort to create a routine of prayer that works for you and incorporate it in your day-to-day life. You’ll be amazed at the difference it can make on your spiritual growth as well as overall wellbeing.
