Once you’ve identified the ideal time to pray, you can start to build your routine. Here’s an illustration of a typical daily routine for prayer in the morning:

Begin by approaching God to ask for his help as you read and meditate.

Go through a section of the Bible and meditate on it. This can be done by reading it three to four times, or writing down the things it says about yourself, the examples you can follow, instructions to obey or promises to keep.

Structure your prayer by offering adoration, confession prayer, thanksgiving, and petition. Pray for your urgent needs and concerns, and take time to enjoy God’s presence.

The beauty of a prayer routine is that it can be adapted to fit your needs. Many people might only have some minutes while others might be able to devote a whole hours or longer. The key is to make it a constant part of your routine. If you don’t make it through one or two days do not fret! Just get back on track for the next day.

A daily prayer practice is a wonderful way to start this new year feeling a renewed sense of purpose and feeling of connection to the divine. It’s an effective way to start your day, placing your attention upon the Lord and aligning your thoughts and actions in accordance with His plan.

Another method to improve your prayer practice is to enhance it by making it more engaging. Instead of simply reciting words, try to engage with God at a deeper level. Make use of your imagination and try to visualize the scenes by the Bible. You can try to imagine the feelings of these characters and place yourself in their the shoes of their characters. This makes your time of prayer more meaningful and personal.

You can also try incorporating different forms prayers into your routine. For example, try a silent prayer, contemplative prayer or even journaling your prayers. This can keep your prayer practice from becoming boring and will add variety to your spiritual routine.
