The most challenging aspect of praying is to make it a regular part of our lives. However, with a bit of planning and effort you can develop an effective prayer schedule that works for you and your schedule. And the best part is, you are able to modify the ritual to suit your personal preferences and your spiritual beliefs.

Let’s be real, life is hectic and it’s easy to let prayer slide off the priority list. But just like anything else worth having, it takes commitment and discipline. That’s where developing a prayer routine comes in. It provides structure and accountability to ensure that we’re in contact with God on a a regular basis.

So, how do you get started? The first step is to decide which time of the day works best for you to pray. Some people like to start their day with prayer while others find it easier to pray before going to bed. Experiment and see which method works best for you.

Once you’ve identified the ideal time to pray, you can start to build your routine. Here’s an illustration of a typical daily routine for morning prayers:

Begin by addressing God to ask for his presence as you read and meditate.

Go through a section of the Bible and meditate on it. This can be accomplished by reading it three or four times or by listing everything it reveals about yourself or guidelines to follow or promises to claim.

Make your prayer a ritual by making confession, adoration as well as petition and thanksgiving. Pray for your needs and pressing concerns and then take time to be in God’s presence.

The beauty of praying is that it’s customizable to suit your needs. For some, you may have only some minutes while others might have a half an hour or more. The key is making it a consistent part of your daily routine. If you don’t make it through one or two days, don’t sweat it! Get back on track the following day.

A daily prayer practice is a great method to begin your new year off with a new belief in the purpose of your life and a connection with the divine. It’s a powerful way to start your day, putting your focus to the Lord and making sure that your actions and thoughts are aligned to His plans.

Another way to increase your prayer practice is to enhance it by making it more interactive. Instead of reciting the words, try to engage with God in a deeper way. Try using your imagination to visualize the scenes by the Bible. Make an effort to experience the emotion of each character and put yourself in their the shoes of their characters. This makes your time of prayer more personal and meaningful.

You can also try incorporating various forms in your prayer routine. For example, try a silent prayer, contemplative prayer, or even journaling your prayers. This can keep your prayer routine from becoming boring and will add some variety to your daily spiritual routine.

One of the most effective ways to remain focused and in line with your daily prayer routine is sharing it with other people. Find an accountability partner, a family member or friend member who can check in with you and help you to stick to your daily routine. They can even be a part of your prayers and share their own experiences.

Rememberthat the purpose of a daily prayer practice is to increase your connection with God and align your thoughts and actions in accordance with His plans. It’s not about perfectionism or adhering to the strict guidelines, but rather being deliberate and consistent in your daily spiritual practice. Therefore, make the effort to find a prayer routine that you enjoy and make it a priority in your day-to-day life. You’ll be amazed at the difference it can make for your spiritual development and overall health.
