The most difficult aspect of prayer is to make it a regular part of our lives. However, with a amount of planning and effort it is possible to create your own prayer routine that is suitable with your lifestyle and schedule. The best part is, you are able to modify the ritual to suit your personal preferences and your spiritual beliefs.
Let’s be real, life can be hectic and it’s easy to let prayers slip down on the list of priorities. But just like anything else worth having, it requires effort and discipline. This is where establishing a prayer routine comes in. It helps us establish a the structure and accountability needed to ensure that we’re in contact with God on a an ongoing basis.
How do you get started? It’s the first thing to do is decide what time of day works best for you to pray. Some prefer to begin their day with prayer, while others prefer to pray at night before going to bed. Try it out and discover what works for you.
Once you’ve determined the best time to pray You can begin to establish a routine. Here’s an illustration of a typical daily routine for morning prayers:
Begin by addressing God to ask for his help as you read and meditate.
Read a passage from the Bible and then meditate on it. This can be done by reading it three to four times, or listing anything it tells you about yourself, or examples to follow, commands to obey or promises to keep.
Your prayer should be structured by praying for adoration, confession prayer, thanksgiving, and petition. Pray for your needs and pressing concerns as well as taking time to enjoy God’s presence.
The beauty of the prayer time routine is that it can be adapted to meet your requirements. Some people may only have a few minutes to spare and others could have an hours or longer. The key is that you make this a constant part of your routine. If you don’t make it through the occasional day or two, don’t sweat it! Get back on track the following day.
An everyday prayer practice is an excellent way to start your new year off with a new belief in the purpose of your life and a spiritual connection with God. It’s an effective way to begin your day by placing your attention on the Lord and aligning your thoughts and actions to His plans.
Another way to increase your prayer practice is to enhance it by making it more engaging. Instead of simply reciting phrases, try engaging with God in a deeper way. Use your imagination and try to visualize the scenes by the Bible. Try to feel the emotions of the characters and place yourself in their the shoes of their characters. This can make your time in prayer more personal and meaningful.
Try incorporating different forms of prayer into your day-to-day routine. For instance, you can try silent prayer, contemplative prayer, or even writing down your prayers. This will keep your prayer practice from becoming boring and will add variety to your spiritual routine.
One of the best ways to remain engaged and focused on your daily prayers is sharing it with other people. Find a accountability partner either a close friend or family member who will be checking in with you and help you to stick to your routine. They could even be a part of your prayers and share their own experiences.
The goal of a daily prayer practice is to strengthen your relationship with God and ensure that your actions and thoughts are in line in accordance with His plans. It’s not about perfectionism or adhering to a strict set of rules, it’s about being deliberate and consistent in your life of faith. Therefore, make the effort to discover a prayer practice that works for you and set it as a priority within your everyday life. You’ll be amazed at the difference it can make on your spiritual growth as well as overall wellbeing.
