The most challenging part of prayer is to make it a regular part of our daily life. With a bit of planning and effort it is possible to create an effective prayer schedule that works with your lifestyle and schedule. The most appealing part is that you get to customize it to match your own personality and spiritual tradition.

It’s true that life is hectic and it’s easy to let prayers slide off the list of priorities. Like everything else that’s worth having, it takes dedication and discipline. This is where establishing an effective prayer schedule comes in. It provides an order and accountability to make sure we are connected to God on a regularly.

How do you get started? It’s the first thing to do is determine which time of the day is most conducive to you to pray. Some people prefer to start their day with prayer while others find it easier to pray in the evening before going to bed. Experiment and see what works for you.

After you’ve decided on the most appropriate time to pray then you can begin to build your routine. Here’s an illustration of a typical daily routine for morning prayer:

Begin by addressing God to ask for his help while you read and pray.

Take a chapter from the Bible and reflect on it. This can be done by reading it three to four times, or listing everything it reveals about yourself, or examples to follow, commands to obey , or promises to make.

Make your prayer a ritual by making confession, adoration, petition, and thanksgiving. Prayerfully address your urgent needs and concerns as well as taking time to sit in the presence of God.

The great thing about a prayer routine is that it’s customizable to suit your needs. Many people might only have some minutes and others could have an hour or more. The key is making it a regular part of your routine. If you fall off the occasional day or two do not fret! You can get back on track the following day.

An everyday prayer practice is a wonderful way to start the new year with a new belief in the purpose of your life and a connection with the divine. It’s a powerful way to start your day, keeping your eyes upon the Lord and making sure that your actions and thoughts are aligned to His plans.

Another way to enhance your prayer time is to enhance it by making it more interactive. Instead of reciting the words, try to engage with God in a deeper way. Try using your imagination to visualize the scenes within the Bible. You can try to imagine the feelings of these characters, and put yourself in their the shoes of their characters. This can make your time in prayer more meaningful and personal.

You can also try incorporating different forms of prayer into your routine. For example, try silent prayer, contemplative prayer, or even writing down your prayers. This will prevent your prayer routine from becoming boring and will add variety to your spiritual routine.

One of the best ways to remain engaged and focused on your daily prayer routine is sharing it with other people. Find a accountability partner, a friend or family member who can check on you regularly and help you to adhere to your daily routine. They can even join you in prayers and share their own experiences.

The goal of a daily prayer practice is to strengthen your relationship with God and make sure that your thoughts and actions are aligned to His plan. It’s not about perfectionism or adhering to the strict rules, it’s about being deliberate and consistent in your life of faith. So, take the time to create a routine of prayer that you enjoy and incorporate it within your everyday life. You’ll be amazed at the impact it has in your spiritual growth and overall health.
