It’s true that life can be busy and it’s easy for prayer to get lost on the list of priorities. But just like anything else worth having, it takes effort and discipline. That’s where developing an effective prayer schedule comes in. It helps us establish a an order and accountability to ensure that we’re connected to God on a regularly.
How do you get started? The first step is to determine the time of day that is most conducive to you to pray. Some people like to start their day with prayer, while others find it easier to pray at night before getting to bed. Experiment and see which method works best for you.
After you’ve decided on the most appropriate time for prayer You can begin to establish a routine. Here’s an illustration of a typical daily routine for prayer in the morning:
Begin by addressing God to ask for his presence while you read and pray.
Read a passage from the Bible and reflect on it. This can be accomplished by reading it three to four times, or writing down anything it tells you about yourself, or examples to follow, commands to obey or promises to make.
Structure your prayer by making confession, adoration prayer, thanksgiving, and petition. Prayerfully address your immediate needs and worries as well as taking time to sit in the presence of God.
The best thing about praying is that it can be adapted to suit your needs. Many people might only have just a few minutes while others might be able to devote a whole hour or more. The trick is making it a constant part of your routine. And if you miss the occasional day or two, don’t sweat it! Get back on track the next day.
A daily prayer practice is an excellent way to start your new year off with a fresh belief in the purpose of your life and a spiritual connection with God. It’s a powerful method to begin your day by placing your attention on the Lord and aligning your thoughts and actions with His will.
Another way to increase your prayer time is to make it more engaging. Instead of simply reciting words, you should try to connect with God on a deeper level. Use your imagination and try to visualize the scenes by the Bible. You can try to imagine the feelings of these characters, and put yourself in their the shoes of their characters. This can make your time in prayer more personal and meaningful.
You can also try incorporating various forms in your prayer day-to-day routine. For example, try a silent prayer, contemplative prayer or even writing your prayers. This can keep your prayer practice from becoming repetitive and provide the variety you need to your spiritual practice.
One of the best methods to keep yourself engaged and focused on your daily prayers is sharing the practice with others. Find a accountability partner either a close friend or family member who will be checking in with you and help you to adhere to your daily routine. They may even be a part of your prayer and share their personal experiences.
Remember, the goal of a regular prayer routine is to strengthen your relationship with God and ensure that your actions and thoughts are in line in accordance with His plans. It’s not about achieving perfection or following an unwritten set of guidelines, but rather being intentional and consistent in your life of faith. So, take the time to find a prayer routine that is a good fit for you and make it a priority in your day-to-day life. You’ll be amazed at the difference it can make on your spiritual growth as well as overall wellbeing.
