Life is hectic and it’s easy to let prayer get lost on the priority list. Like everything else worth being a part of, it requires effort and discipline. That’s where developing a prayer routine comes in. It helps us establish a the structure and accountability needed to ensure that we’re connected to God on a a regular basis.

How do you get started? It’s the first thing to do is decide the time of day that is the most suitable time to pray. Some prefer to begin their day with prayer while others find it easier to pray before going to getting to bed. Test and see what works for you.

Once you’ve identified the ideal time for prayer, you can start to establish a routine. Here’s an illustration of a typical daily routine for morning prayer:

Begin by approaching God to ask for his presence as you read and pray.

Read a passage from the Bible and then meditate on it for a while. This can be done by reading the passage three to four times or by listing anything it tells you about yourself, or guidelines to follow or promises to make.

Structure your prayer by offering adoration, confession prayer, thanksgiving, and petition. Prayerfully address your immediate needs and worries, and take time to be in God’s presence.

The beauty of praying is that it’s customizable to meet your requirements. Some people may only have some minutes while others might be able to devote a whole time or even more. The key is that you make this a consistent part of your daily routine. And if you miss one or two days, don’t sweat it! Just get back on track the following day.

A daily prayer practice is an excellent opportunity to begin this new year feeling a fresh sense of purpose and spiritual connection with God. It’s a powerful method to begin your day by keeping your eyes on the Lord and aligning your thoughts and actions in accordance with His plan.

Another method to improve your prayer time is to make it more engaging. Instead of simply reciting words, try to engage with God on a deeper level. Try using your imagination to imagine the scenes that are described within the Bible. Try to feel the emotions of the characters, and put yourself in their position. This makes your time of prayer more meaningful and personal.

It is also possible to incorporate different types of prayer into your daily routine. For example, try a silent prayer, contemplative prayer, or even journaling your prayers. This will keep your prayer practice from becoming boring and will add variety to your spiritual routine.

One of the best ways to stay motivated and on track with your daily prayers is sharing your practice with others. Find an accountability partner either a close friend or family member who will check in with you and help you to adhere to your daily routine. They may even join you in prayers and share their own experiences.

The goal of daily prayer is to deepen your relationship with God and make sure that your thoughts and actions are aligned with His will. It’s not about perfectionism or adhering to the strict guidelines, but rather being intentional and consistent in your life of faith. Take the time to discover a prayer practice that works for you and incorporate it in your day-to-day life.
