Begin by talking to God, ask for his help as you read and meditate.

Read a passage from the Bible and then meditate on it for a while. This can be accomplished by reading it three or four times or by listing the things it says about yourself, guidelines to follow or promises to keep.

Structure your prayer by offering adoration, confession as well as petition and thanksgiving. Pray for your needs and pressing concerns, and take time to be in God’s presence.

Make use of your imagination and try to picture the scenes described in the Bible. Make an effort to experience the emotion of each character, and put yourself in their position. This makes your time of prayer more meaningful and personal.

You can also try incorporating different forms prayers into your daily routine. For example, try a silent prayer, contemplative prayer or even writing your prayers. This will prevent your prayer practice from becoming monotonous and add some variety to your daily spiritual routine.

Find an accountability partner either a close friend or family member who will be checking in with you and encourage you to stick to your schedule. They can even join you in prayer and share their personal experiences.
