The most difficult aspect of prayer is making it a consistent part of our daily lives. With a time and planning you can develop a prayer routine that works for you and your time. The best part is, you are able to modify the ritual to suit your personal preferences and religious tradition.

Life is hectic and it’s easy to let prayer slip down on the list of priorities. Like everything else that’s worth having, it requires effort and discipline. This is where establishing an effective prayer schedule comes in. It gives an order and accountability to ensure we’re in contact with God on a regularly.

How do you start? The first step is to decide which time of the day works best for you to pray. Some prefer to begin their day by praying, while others prefer to pray in the evening before going to bed. Experiment and see what works best for you.

After you’ve decided on the most appropriate time for prayer then you can begin to build your routine. Here’s an example of a daily pattern for prayer in the morning:

Begin by talking to God and asking for his blessing while you read and pray.

Go through a section of the Bible and then meditate on it for a while. This can be accomplished by reading it three or four times, or listing the things it says about yourself, examples to follow, commands to obey or promises to claim.

Your prayer should be structured by offering adoration, confession, petition, and thanksgiving. Make a prayer for your immediate needs and worries and then take time to sit in the presence of God.

The beauty of the prayer time routine is that it can be adapted to fit your needs. Many people might only have some minutes and others could be able to devote a whole hours or longer. It’s important making it a constant part of your routine. If you fall off the occasional day or two do not fret! Get back on track the following day.

The practice of daily prayer is a great opportunity to begin this new year feeling a renewed sense of purpose and feeling of connection to the divine. It’s a powerful way to begin your day by putting your focus to the Lord and making sure that your actions and thoughts are aligned to His plans.

Another way to increase your prayer time is to enhance it by making it more engaging. Instead of simply reciting phrases, try engaging with God in a deeper way. Try using your imagination to visualize the scenes within the Bible. You can try to imagine the feelings of these characters, and put yourself in their shoes. This can make your time in prayer more meaningful and personal.

You can also try incorporating different types in your prayer day-to-day routine. For example, try a silent prayer, contemplative prayer, or even writing your prayers. This will keep your prayer routine from becoming repetitive and provide some variety to your daily spiritual routine.

One of the most effective ways to remain focused and in line with your prayer practice is by sharing your practice with other people. Find an accountability partner, a friend or family member who will check in with you and encourage you to adhere to your routine. They may even join you in prayers and share their own experiences.

Rememberthat the purpose of a daily prayer practice is to deepen your relationship with God and align your thoughts and actions in accordance with His plans. It’s not about perfectionism or adhering to the strict guidelines, but rather being consistent and deliberate in your daily spiritual practice. Therefore, make the effort to discover a prayer practice that works for you and incorporate it in your daily life. You’ll be amazed at how much difference it makes in your spiritual growth and overall well-being.
