Are you looking to take your spirituality to the highest level? One of the best ways to accomplish this is to establish a regular prayer routine.
Consider it your spiritual exercise, similar to as you go to the gym to stay in shape, a daily prayer practice can keep your soul strong and in tune with the Divine.
The most difficult aspect of prayer is making it a consistent element of our daily life. However, with a bit of planning and effort you can develop an effective prayer schedule that works for you and your time. And the greatest part is that you are able to modify it to fit your personality and your spiritual beliefs.
Let’s be real, life can be hectic and it’s easy to let prayers slip down on the list of priorities. But just like anything other thing worth being a part of, it requires dedication and discipline. This is where the creation of the habit of praying comes into. It gives structure and accountability to make sure we are in contact with God on a an ongoing basis.
So, how do you get started? First, you must decide the time of day that is the most suitable time to pray. Some prefer to begin their day with prayer and others prefer to pray in the evening before going to getting to bed. Test and see what works best for you.
Once you’ve determined the best time for prayer then you can begin to build your routine. Here’s an example of a daily pattern for prayer in the morning:
Begin by talking to God, ask for his presence as you read and pray.
Go through a section of the Bible and then meditate on the passage. This can be done by reading it three to four times, or writing down anything it tells you about yourself, or the examples you can follow, instructions to follow or promises to keep.
Make your prayer a ritual by praying for adoration, confession, petition, and thanksgiving. Make a prayer for your immediate needs and worries and then take time to enjoy God’s presence.
The great thing about the prayer time routine is that it is customizable to fit your needs. Many people might only have some minutes while others might have a half an hours or longer. It’s important to make it a consistent element of your day-to-day routine. If you don’t make it through one or two days do not fret! Just get back on track for the next day.
An everyday prayer practice is a wonderful method to begin your new year off with a renewed belief in the purpose of your life and a feeling of connection to the divine. It’s an effective way to begin your day by placing your attention upon the Lord and making sure that your actions and thoughts are aligned to His plans.
Another way to increase your prayer practice is to create a more interactive. Instead of reciting the phrases, try engaging with God on a deeper level. Use your imagination and try to visualize the scenes by the Bible. Try to feel the emotions of the characters and place yourself in their shoes. This will make your prayer time more meaningful and personal.
It is also possible to incorporate various forms in your prayer daily routine. For example, try a silent prayer, contemplative prayer, or even journaling your prayers. This will keep your prayer practice from becoming boring and will add the variety you need to your spiritual practice.
One of the most effective methods to keep yourself focused and in line with your daily prayer routine is sharing it with other people. Find a partner in accountability, a friend or family member who will check on you regularly and help you to keep to your schedule. They may even be a part of your prayer and share their personal experiences.
The goal of a regular prayer routine is to increase your connection with God and align your thoughts and actions in accordance with His plans. It’s not about perfection or following a strict set of guidelines, but rather being consistent and deliberate in your daily spiritual practice. Take the time to create a routine of prayer that is a good fit for you and incorporate it in your day-to-day life. You’ll be amazed by the difference it can make for your spiritual development and overall health.
