Begin by talking to God and asking for his help while you read and pray.

Take a chapter from the Bible and then meditate on it. This can be done by reading it three to four times, or listing the things it says about yourself or the examples you can follow, instructions to follow or promises to claim.

Make your prayer a ritual by praying for adoration, confession as well as petition and thanksgiving. Prayerfully address your immediate needs and worries and then take time to sit in the presence of God.

Another method to improve your prayer practice is to make it more interactive. Instead of simply reciting words, try to engage with God in a deeper way. Make use of your imagination and try to visualize the scenes within the Bible. Try to feel the emotions of the characters and place yourself in their the shoes of their characters. This makes your time of prayer more personal and meaningful.

It is also possible to incorporate different types prayers into your daily routine. For example, try silent prayer, contemplative prayer or even journaling your prayers. This can keep your prayer routine from becoming monotonous and add some variety to your daily spiritual routine.

Find a partner in accountability, a family member or friend member who will check in with you and encourage you to adhere to your routine. They may even join you in prayer and share their own experiences.
