Let’s be real, life can be busy and it’s easy to let prayers get lost on the priority list. Like everything else worth being a part of, it requires effort and discipline. This is where the creation of a prayer routine comes in. It provides the structure and accountability needed to make sure we are in contact with God on a regularly.
So, how do you begin? It’s the first thing to do is determine which time of the day is most conducive to you to pray. Some people like to start their day by praying, while others prefer to pray before going to bed. Try it out and discover what works best for you.
After you’ve decided on the most appropriate time to pray, you can start to build your routine. Here’s an example of a daily pattern for morning prayer:
Begin by approaching God to ask for his blessing as you read and meditate.
Take a chapter from the Bible and meditate on it for a while. This can be accomplished by reading it three to four times, or writing down everything it reveals about yourself or the examples you can follow, instructions to obey or promises to claim.
Structure your prayer by making confession, adoration, petition, and thanksgiving. Prayerfully address your needs and pressing concerns and then take time to be in God’s presence.
The best thing about the prayer time routine is that it’s customizable to fit your needs. For some, you may have only a few minutes to spare, while others may have a half an time or even more. The trick is to make it a constant element of your day-to-day routine. If you don’t make it through a day or two Don’t be concerned! Just get back on track the following day.
The practice of daily prayer is a wonderful method to begin this new year feeling a renewed belief in the purpose of your life and a feeling of connection to the divine. It’s a powerful way to begin your day by putting your focus to the Lord and aligning your thoughts and actions to His plans.
Another way to increase your prayer routine is to enhance it by making it more engaging. Instead of reciting the words, try to engage with God at a deeper level. Make use of your imagination and try to picture the scenes described within the Bible. Try to feel the emotions of the characters and place yourself in their shoes. This can make your time in prayer more meaningful and personal.
You can also try incorporating different types prayers into your routine. For instance, you can try silent prayer, contemplative prayer, or even journaling your prayers. This will prevent your prayer routine from becoming monotonous and add some variety to your daily spiritual routine.
One of the most effective ways to remain engaged and focused on your daily prayer routine is sharing it with other people. Find a partner in accountability either a close friend or family member who will be checking in with you and help you to keep to your daily routine. They may even be a part of your prayer and share their personal experiences.
Rememberthat the purpose of daily prayer is to increase your connection with God and align your thoughts and actions with His will. It’s not about perfection or adhering to an unwritten set of guidelines, but rather being intentional and consistent in your spiritual life. Therefore, make the effort to discover a prayer practice that you enjoy and set it as a priority within your everyday life. You’ll be amazed at the impact it has in your spiritual growth as well as overall wellbeing.
