This is where the creation of the habit of praying comes into. It gives the structure and accountability needed to make sure we are in contact with God on a regularly.
So, how do you start? First, you must determine the time of day that is the most suitable time to pray. Some people prefer to start their day with prayer while others find it easier to pray in the evening before going to getting to bed. Test and see what works best for you.
Once you’ve determined the best time to pray then you can begin to build your routine. Here’s an example of a pattern that you can follow daily for prayer in the morning:
Begin by talking to God, ask for his presence as you read and meditate.
Take a chapter from the Bible and then meditate on it. This can be accomplished by reading it three or four times or by listing everything it reveals about yourself, examples to follow, commands to obey or promises to keep.
Make your prayer a ritual by making confession, adoration prayer, thanksgiving, and petition. Prayerfully address your immediate needs and worries as well as taking time to enjoy God’s presence.
The beauty of a prayer routine is that it can be adapted to fit your needs. Some people may only have some minutes, while others may have a half an time or even more. The key is to make it a constant element of your day-to-day routine. And if you miss the occasional day or two, don’t sweat it! Just get back on track the next day.
An everyday prayer practice is an excellent opportunity to begin this new year feeling a new belief in the purpose of your life and a feeling of connection to the divine. It’s a powerful way to begin your day by placing your attention upon the Lord and aligning your thoughts and actions with His will.
Another way to increase your prayer time is to enhance it by making it more engaging. Instead of simply reciting words, you should try to connect with God on a deeper level. Try using your imagination to visualize the scenes within the Bible. You can try to imagine the feelings of these characters and place yourself in their the shoes of their characters. This will make your prayer time more personal and meaningful.
Try incorporating different forms of prayer into your routine. For instance, you can try silent prayer, contemplative prayer or even writing down your prayers. This will keep your prayer routine from becoming monotonous and add some variety to your daily spiritual routine.
One of the best methods to keep yourself motivated and on track with your daily prayers is sharing it with others. Find a accountability partner, a family member or friend member who will check in with you and help you to adhere to your daily routine. They can even be a part of your prayer and share their personal experiences.
Remember, the goal of a daily prayer practice is to increase your connection with God and make sure that your thoughts and actions are aligned to His plan. It’s not about achieving perfection or adhering to a strict set of rules, it’s about being consistent and deliberate in your life of faith. Therefore, make the effort to find a prayer routine that you enjoy and make it a priority within your everyday life. You’ll be amazed at how much difference it makes for your spiritual development and overall health.
