Are you willing to take your spiritual life to the next level? One of the most effective ways to accomplish this is by developing a daily prayer habit.
Consider it your spiritual workout, just as you go to the gym to stay fit, regular prayer keeps your soul healthy and in tune with the Divine.
The most difficult aspect of praying is making it a consistent part of our life. But with a little amount of planning and effort, you can create a prayer routine that works with your lifestyle and schedule. And the greatest part is that you can customize it to match your own personality and religious tradition.
It’s true that life can be hectic and it’s easy for prayer to slide off the list of priorities. But just like anything other thing worth being a part of, it requires effort and discipline. This is where establishing a prayer routine comes in. It helps us establish a an order and accountability to ensure that we’re connected to God on a regularly.
How do you get started? The first step is to determine the time of day that is most conducive to you to pray. Some prefer to begin their day with prayer while others find it easier to pray before going to getting to bed. Experiment and see what works for you.
After you’ve decided on the most appropriate time for prayer, you can start to establish a routine. Here’s an example of a pattern that you can follow daily for morning prayer:
Begin by approaching God to ask for his blessing while you read and pray.
Read a passage from the Bible and reflect on the passage. This can be done by reading the passage three to four times, or listing the things it says about yourself, or guidelines to obey , or promises to make.
Your prayer should be structured by praying for adoration, confession as well as petition and thanksgiving. Make a prayer for your urgent needs and concerns as well as taking time to enjoy God’s presence.
The great thing about a prayer routine is that it can be adapted to suit your needs. Some people may only have some minutes and others could have an hours or longer. The key is to make it a regular part of your daily routine. If you fall off a day or two do not fret! Just get back on track for the next day.
A daily prayer practice is an excellent way to start your new year off with a new sense of purpose and feeling of connection to the divine. It’s a powerful method to begin your day by keeping your eyes on the Lord and aligning your thoughts and actions to His plans.
Another way to increase your prayer practice is to enhance it by making it more engaging. Instead of reciting the words, try to engage with God in a deeper way. Try using your imagination to imagine the scenes that are described in the Bible. Try to feel the emotions of the characters, and put yourself in their shoes. This makes your time of prayer more meaningful and personal.
Try incorporating different forms prayers into your routine. For instance, you can try silent prayer, contemplative prayer or even writing down your prayers. This will keep your prayer routine from becoming monotonous and add the variety you need to your spiritual practice.
One of the best ways to remain engaged and focused on your daily prayer routine is sharing your practice with others. Find a partner in accountability, a family member or friend member who will check in with you and help you to keep to your routine. They may even join you in prayers and share their own experiences.
The goal of a daily prayer practice is to deepen your relationship with God and ensure that your actions and thoughts are in line in accordance with His plans. It’s not about perfectionism or following the strict rules, it’s about being deliberate and consistent in your daily spiritual practice. Therefore, make the effort to find a prayer routine that works for you and make it a priority within your everyday life. You’ll be amazed at how much difference it makes for your spiritual development as well as overall wellbeing.

1. A Morning Prayer for Strength
God, I’m exhausted and I don’t know when the “race” will end in my life. It seems like I’ve been running for years trying to conquer this challenge. Please help me quit trying to run away from my pain, and instead race with a sense of endurance the race you have set for me.
