How do you begin? The first step is to determine the time of day that is most conducive to you to pray. Some people prefer to start their day by praying, while others find it easier to pray in the evening before going to going to bed. Experiment and see what works for you.
Once you’ve determined the best time for prayer, you can start to establish a routine. Here’s an example of a daily pattern for morning prayer:
Begin by approaching God, ask for his help as you read and pray.
Go through a section of the Bible and reflect on it for a while. This can be accomplished by reading it three to four times or by listing anything it tells you about yourself, or guidelines to obey or promises to make.
Make your prayer a ritual by making confession, adoration prayer, thanksgiving, and petition. Make a prayer for your immediate needs and worries as well as taking time to be in God’s presence.
The beauty of a prayer routine is that it is customizable to meet your requirements. For some, you may have only some minutes while others might be able to devote a whole hour or more. The trick is making it a regular part of your daily routine. If you don’t make it through one or two days do not fret! Get back on track the next day.
The practice of daily prayer is an excellent opportunity to begin this new year feeling a new sense of purpose and connection with the divine. It’s a powerful way to start your day, placing your attention upon the Lord and aligning your thoughts and actions in accordance with His plan.
Another way to enhance your prayer routine is to make it more engaging. Instead of just reciting words, you should try to connect with God on a deeper level. Use your imagination and try to imagine the scenes that are described in the Bible. Try to feel the emotions of the characters, and put yourself in their the shoes of their characters. This makes your time of prayer more meaningful and personal.
It is also possible to incorporate different forms prayers into your routine. For instance, you can try silent prayer, contemplative prayer or even writing down your prayers. This can keep your prayer routine from becoming repetitive and provide some variety to your daily spiritual routine.
One of the most effective ways to stay motivated and on track with your prayer practice is by sharing it with others. Find a accountability partner either a close friend or family member who will be checking in with you and help you to keep to your routine. They can even join you in prayer and share their own experiences.
The goal of a daily prayer practice is to deepen your relationship with God and align your thoughts and actions to His plan.
