The most challenging aspect of praying is making it a consistent element of our daily life. With a time and planning you can develop your own prayer routine that is suitable for you and your time. The best part is, you can customize the ritual to suit your personal preferences and your spiritual beliefs.
Let’s be real, life can be busy and it’s easy for prayer to slide off the list of priorities. However, just like everything else worth having, it takes effort and discipline. This is where the creation of a prayer routine comes in. It gives structure and accountability to ensure that we’re connected to God on a a regular basis.
So, how do you start? First, you must decide which time of the day works best for you to pray. Some prefer to begin their day with prayer while others prefer to pray at night before getting to bed. Test and see what works best for you.
Once you’ve identified the ideal time to pray then you can begin to establish a routine. Here’s an illustration of a typical daily routine for morning prayers:
Begin by approaching God, ask for his presence as you read and meditate.
Read a passage from the Bible and reflect on the passage. This can be accomplished by reading the passage three to four times or by listing everything it reveals about yourself, or examples to follow, commands to obey or promises to make.
Structure your prayer by praying for adoration, confession as well as petition and thanksgiving. Pray for your immediate needs and worries, and take time to sit in the presence of God.
The beauty of praying is that it can be adapted to fit your needs. Some people may only have a few minutes to spare while others might be able to devote a whole time or even more. It’s important that you make this a constant part of your daily routine. If you fall off a day or two, don’t sweat it! Just get back on track for the next day.
The practice of daily prayer is an excellent opportunity to begin your new year off with a fresh belief in the purpose of your life and a spiritual connection with God. It’s a powerful method to start your day, putting your focus upon the Lord and aligning your thoughts and actions with His will.
Another way to increase your prayer time is to enhance it by making it more interactive. Instead of reciting the phrases, try engaging with God in a deeper way. Try using your imagination to picture the scenes described by the Bible. Try to feel the emotions of the characters, and put yourself in their the shoes of their characters. This will make your prayer time more meaningful and personal.
Try incorporating different forms of prayer into your daily routine. For example, try a silent prayers, contemplative prayers, or even journaling your prayers. This will prevent your prayer routine from becoming boring and will add the variety you need to your spiritual practice.
One of the best methods to keep yourself focused and in line with your daily prayers is sharing the practice with other people. Find a partner in accountability, a family member or friend member who will check on you regularly and help you to adhere to your schedule. They may even be a part of your prayer and share their personal experiences.
The goal of a regular prayer routine is to strengthen your relationship with God and make sure that your thoughts and actions are aligned in accordance with His plans. It’s not about perfection or following the strict rules, it’s about being deliberate and consistent in your daily spiritual practice. Take the time to create a routine of prayer that is a good fit for you and incorporate it within your everyday life. You’ll be amazed at the impact it has on your spiritual growth and overall health.
