The most difficult aspect of praying is making it a consistent part of our daily life. However, with a bit of planning and effort it is possible to create your own prayer routine that is suitable with your lifestyle and schedule. The best part is, you are able to modify the ritual to suit your personal preferences and spiritual tradition.
Let’s be real, life can be hectic and it’s easy to let prayers slide off the list of priorities. But just like anything else that’s worth being a part of, it requires commitment and discipline. This is where the creation of an effective prayer schedule comes in. It gives an order and accountability to make sure we are connecting with the divine on a regular basis.
How do you start? The first step is to figure out which time of the day is most conducive to you to pray. Some people like to start their day by praying, while others find it easier to pray in the evening before going to getting to bed. Experiment and see what works for you.
After you’ve decided on the most appropriate time to pray then you can begin to build your routine. Here’s an example of a pattern that you can follow daily for prayer in the morning:
Begin by addressing God to ask for his help while you read and pray.
Go through a section of the Bible and meditate on the passage. This can be done by reading it three or four times, or listing anything it tells you about yourself, guidelines to follow or promises to claim.
Your prayer should be structured by praying for adoration, confession as well as petition and thanksgiving. Pray for your immediate needs and worries, and take time to be in God’s presence.
The great thing about the prayer time routine is that it can be adapted to fit your needs. Many people might only have just a few minutes, while others may have an time or even more. The trick is that you make this a regular part of your routine. If you fall off one or two days Don’t be concerned! Get back on track for the next day.
The practice of daily prayer is a wonderful opportunity to begin the new year with a renewed belief in the purpose of your life and a feeling of connection to the divine. It’s an effective way to begin your day by putting your focus upon the Lord and making sure that your actions and thoughts are aligned in accordance with His plan.
Another method to improve your prayer routine is to make it more interactive. Instead of simply reciting words, try to engage with God at a deeper level. Use your imagination and try to visualize the scenes by the Bible. You can try to imagine the feelings of these characters and put yourself in their the shoes of their characters. This makes your time of prayer more meaningful and personal.
You can also try incorporating different forms prayers into your day-to-day routine. For instance, you can try silent prayer, contemplative prayer, or even writing your prayers. This will keep your prayer routine from becoming repetitive and provide variety to your spiritual routine.
One of the best ways to remain engaged and focused on your prayer practice is by sharing your practice with other people. Find a accountability partner, a family member or friend member who can check in with you and encourage you to adhere to your routine. They could even be a part of your prayers and share their own experiences.
The goal of a regular prayer routine is to strengthen your relationship with God and ensure that your actions and thoughts are in line to His plan. It’s not about perfection or following an unwritten set of rules, it’s about being intentional and consistent in your life of faith. So, take the time to create a routine of prayer that is a good fit for you and incorporate it within your everyday life. You’ll be amazed by the impact it has on your spiritual growth as well as overall wellbeing.
