The most difficult aspect of prayer is to make it a regular part of our daily life. However, with a time and planning you can develop your own prayer routine that is suitable for you and your time. The best part is, you get to customize it to fit your personality and religious tradition.
It’s true that life is hectic and it’s easy to let prayer slide off the list of priorities. However, just like everything else worth being a part of, it requires commitment and discipline. This is where establishing the habit of praying comes into. It gives an order and accountability to ensure that we’re in contact with God on a regularly.
So, how do you begin? First, you must figure out the time of day that works best for you to pray. Some people like to start their day with prayer, while others find it easier to pray at night before getting to bed. Test and see what works for you.
After you’ve decided on the most appropriate time to pray then you can begin to build your routine. Here’s an illustration of a typical daily routine for morning prayers:
Begin by addressing God to ask for his presence as you read and pray.
Read a passage from the Bible and then meditate on it. This can be accomplished by reading the passage three to four times, or writing down anything it tells you about yourself or the examples you can follow, instructions to obey , or promises to make.
Structure your prayer by making confession, adoration, petition, and thanksgiving. Prayerfully address your urgent needs and concerns, and take time to sit in the presence of God.
The best thing about a prayer routine is that it can be adapted to fit your needs. Some people may only have just a few minutes while others might be able to devote a whole hour or more. It’s important that you make this a consistent part of your daily routine. And if you miss a day or two do not fret! Get back on track the following day.
An everyday prayer practice is a great opportunity to begin this new year feeling a new belief in the purpose of your life and a connection with the divine. It’s a powerful method to start your day, keeping your eyes on the Lord and making sure that your actions and thoughts are aligned with His will.
Another way to enhance your prayer time is to enhance it by making it more engaging. Instead of simply reciting words, you should try to connect with God on a deeper level. Try using your imagination to imagine the scenes that are described within the Bible. You can try to imagine the feelings of these characters and put yourself in their position. This can make your time in prayer more meaningful and personal.
Try incorporating different types in your prayer day-to-day routine. For instance, you can try silent prayers, contemplative prayers, or even writing your prayers. This will keep your prayer practice from becoming boring and will add some variety to your daily spiritual routine.
One of the best ways to stay focused and in line with your prayer practice is by sharing the practice with other people. Find a accountability partner either a close friend or family member who can check on you regularly and help you to adhere to your routine. They could even be a part of your prayer and share their own experiences.
The goal of daily prayer is to increase your connection with God and make sure that your thoughts and actions are aligned with His will. It’s not about achieving perfection or adhering to a strict set of rules, it’s about being intentional and consistent in your spiritual life. Take the time to find a prayer routine that you enjoy and incorporate it in your day-to-day life. You’ll be amazed at the difference it can make in your spiritual growth as well as overall wellbeing.
