The most challenging part of prayer is making it a constant element of our daily life. But with a little amount of planning and effort it is possible to create a prayer routine that works for you and your schedule. The most appealing part is that you can customize the ritual to suit your personal preferences and your spiritual beliefs.
Let’s be real, life can be hectic and it’s easy to let prayer get lost on the list of priorities. Like everything else that’s worth having, it takes commitment and discipline. This is where establishing an effective prayer schedule comes in. It gives an order and accountability to ensure that we’re in contact with God on a regularly.
So, how do you begin? The first step is to figure out which time of the day is most conducive to you to pray. Some prefer to begin their day with prayer, while others find it easier to pray in the evening before going to getting to bed. Test and see what works best for you.
After you’ve decided on the most appropriate time to pray then you can begin to establish a routine. Here’s an example of a daily pattern for morning prayers:
Begin by addressing God and asking for his help while you read and pray.
Take a chapter from the Bible and then meditate on it for a while. This can be done by reading it three to four times or by listing anything it tells you about yourself, the examples you can follow, instructions to follow or promises to keep.
Make your prayer a ritual by offering adoration, confession, petition, and thanksgiving. Prayerfully address your needs and pressing concerns and then take time to enjoy God’s presence.
The great thing about a prayer routine is that it can be adapted to fit your needs. For some, you may have only a few minutes to spare and others could be able to devote a whole hour or more. The key is to make it a constant part of your routine. If you don’t make it through one or two days Don’t be concerned! You can get back on track the next day.
A daily prayer practice is a great way to start the new year with a fresh sense of purpose and connection with the divine. It’s a powerful method to start your day, placing your attention to the Lord and aligning your thoughts and actions with His will.
Another method to improve your prayer practice is to make it more engaging. Instead of simply reciting words, you should try to connect with God at a deeper level. Try using your imagination to imagine the scenes that are described within the Bible. Make an effort to experience the emotion of each character and put yourself in their the shoes of their characters. This makes your time of prayer more personal and meaningful.
Try incorporating different forms prayers into your daily routine. For instance, you can try silent prayer, contemplative prayer or even writing your prayers. This can keep your prayer practice from becoming monotonous and add the variety you need to your spiritual practice.
One of the most effective methods to keep yourself motivated and on track with your daily prayer routine is sharing your practice with other people. Find a partner in accountability, a family member or friend member who can check on you regularly and help you to keep to your daily routine. They may even join you in prayers and share their own experiences.
Remember, the goal of a daily prayer practice is to deepen your relationship with God and ensure that your actions and thoughts are in line in accordance with His plans. It’s not about perfectionism or following a strict set of guidelines, but rather being intentional and consistent in your life of faith. Take the time to find a prayer routine that is a good fit for you and set it as a priority in your daily life.
