But with a little bit of planning and effort it is possible to create your own prayer routine that is suitable with your lifestyle and schedule. And the best part is, you get to customize it to fit your personality and your spiritual beliefs.
It’s true that life can be hectic and it’s easy to let prayers get lost on the priority list. However, just like everything other thing worth having, it requires dedication and discipline. That’s where developing the habit of praying comes into. It provides an order and accountability to make sure we are in contact with God on a regularly.
So, how do you begin? The first step is to decide what time of day works best for you to pray. Some people prefer to start their day with prayer while others find it easier to pray in the evening before going to bed. Test and see what works for you.
Once you’ve determined the best time to pray You can begin to establish a routine. Here’s an illustration of a typical daily routine for prayer in the morning:
Begin by addressing God and asking for his blessing while you read and pray.
Take a chapter from the Bible and meditate on it. This can be done by reading it three to four times, or listing the things it says about yourself, or examples to follow, commands to follow or promises to claim.
Your prayer should be structured by making confession, adoration prayer, thanksgiving, and petition. Make a prayer for your immediate needs and worries and then take time to sit in the presence of God.
The beauty of praying is that it’s customizable to meet your requirements. Some people may only have a few minutes to spare and others could have an hour or more. It’s important that you make this a consistent part of your daily routine. If you fall off a day or two do not fret! Just get back on track for the next day.
A daily prayer practice is an excellent opportunity to begin the new year with a fresh belief in the purpose of your life and a spiritual connection with God. It’s an effective way to begin your day by keeping your eyes on the Lord and making sure that your actions and thoughts are aligned in accordance with His plan.
Another way to enhance your prayer time is to make it more engaging. Instead of just reciting words, you should try to connect with God on a deeper level. Use your imagination and try to visualize the scenes by the Bible. Try to feel the emotions of the characters and put yourself in their the shoes of their characters. This makes your time of prayer more personal and meaningful.
Try incorporating different types in your prayer routine. For example, try a silent prayers, contemplative prayers, or even writing your prayers. This will prevent your prayer routine from becoming boring and will add some variety to your daily spiritual routine.
One of the most effective ways to stay motivated and on track with your prayer practice is by sharing your practice with others. Find an accountability partner either a close friend or family member who can check in with you and encourage you to keep to your routine. They may even join you in prayers and share their own experiences.
Remember, the goal of daily prayer is to increase your connection with God and make sure that your thoughts and actions are aligned to His plan. It’s not about achieving perfection or following the strict guidelines, but rather being deliberate and consistent in your daily spiritual practice. Take the time to discover a prayer practice that you enjoy and make it a priority in your day-to-day life. You’ll be amazed at the difference it can make for your spiritual development as well as overall wellbeing.
