The most challenging aspect of praying is making it a consistent part of our lives. With a amount of planning and effort it is possible to create a prayer routine that works for you and your schedule. The greatest part is that you are able to modify it to fit your personality and religious tradition.
Let’s be real, life is hectic and it’s easy to let prayer get lost on the list of priorities. Like everything else worth being a part of, it requires effort and discipline. That’s where developing an effective prayer schedule comes in. It gives the structure and accountability needed to ensure we’re connected to God on a a regular basis.
So, how do you start? It’s the first thing to do is figure out which time of the day is most conducive to you to pray. Some people like to start their day with prayer, while others find it easier to pray at night before getting to bed. Test and see what works best for you.
After you’ve decided on the most appropriate time to pray, you can start to establish a routine. Here’s an illustration of a typical daily routine for morning prayers:
Begin by talking to God to ask for his blessing as you read and pray.
Go through a section of the Bible and reflect on it for a while. This can be accomplished by reading it three to four times, or listing anything it tells you about yourself or the examples you can follow, instructions to obey or promises to keep.
Make your prayer a ritual by praying for adoration, confession as well as petition and thanksgiving. Make a prayer for your needs and pressing concerns, and take time to be in God’s presence.
The best thing about the prayer time routine is that it can be adapted to suit your needs. Many people might only have just a few minutes and others could have a half an time or even more. The key is that you make this a regular part of your daily routine. If you fall off a day or two do not fret! Just get back on track for the next day.
The practice of daily prayer is a wonderful method to begin your new year off with a new belief in the purpose of your life and a spiritual connection with God. It’s an effective way to start your day, putting your focus upon the Lord and aligning your thoughts and actions in accordance with His plan.
Another way to increase your prayer time is to make it more interactive. Instead of reciting the phrases, try engaging with God at a deeper level. Try using your imagination to imagine the scenes that are described in the Bible. You can try to imagine the feelings of these characters and place yourself in their the shoes of their characters. This can make your time in prayer more personal and meaningful.
You can also try incorporating different types in your prayer routine. For instance, you can try silent prayers, contemplative prayers, or even writing your prayers. This can keep your prayer routine from becoming monotonous and add variety to your spiritual routine.
One of the most effective methods to keep yourself focused and in line with your prayer practice is by sharing your practice with others. Find an accountability partner, a family member or friend member who will check in with you and encourage you to stick to your daily routine. They may even be a part of your prayers and share their own experiences.
The goal of a regular prayer routine is to strengthen your relationship with God and ensure that your actions and thoughts are in line to His plan. It’s not about achieving perfection or following a strict set of rules, it’s about being consistent and deliberate in your spiritual life. Take the time to create a routine of prayer that is a good fit for you and make it a priority in your daily life. You’ll be amazed by the difference it can make on your spiritual growth as well as overall wellbeing.
