Life can be busy and it’s easy to let prayer slip down on the list of priorities. However, just like everything else that’s worth having, it takes dedication and discipline. This is where establishing a prayer routine comes in. It helps us establish a an order and accountability to make sure we are connected to God on a an ongoing basis.
So, how do you start? The first step is to determine which time of the day works best for you to pray. Some people prefer to start their day with prayer, and others prefer to pray in the evening before going to going to bed. Experiment and see which method works best for you.
Once you’ve identified the ideal time to pray, you can start to build your routine. Here’s an example of a daily pattern for morning prayer:
Begin by addressing God to ask for his help while you read and pray.
Go through a section of the Bible and meditate on it for a while. It can be done by reading the passage three to four times, or writing down the things it says about yourself, or guidelines to follow or promises to make.
Your prayer should be structured by making confession, adoration, petition, and thanksgiving. Pray for your needs and pressing concerns and then take time to be in God’s presence.
The great thing about praying is that it can be adapted to fit your needs. For some, you may have only some minutes, while others may have a half an time or even more. The trick is that you make this a consistent part of your routine. If you fall off the occasional day or two, don’t sweat it! Get back on track the following day.
A daily prayer practice is a wonderful method to begin the new year with a renewed belief in the purpose of your life and a connection with the divine. It’s an effective way to begin your day by putting your focus upon the Lord and making sure that your actions and thoughts are aligned with His will.
Another way to increase your prayer time is to make it more engaging. Instead of reciting the phrases, try engaging with God at a deeper level. Try using your imagination to visualize the scenes by the Bible. You can try to imagine the feelings of these characters, and put yourself in their shoes. This will make your prayer time more personal and meaningful.
It is also possible to incorporate different types of prayer into your daily routine. For example, try a silent prayers, contemplative prayers, or even writing your prayers. This can keep your prayer practice from becoming repetitive and provide variety to your spiritual routine.
One of the most effective methods to keep yourself focused and in line with your daily prayers is sharing it with others. Find an accountability partner, a family member or friend member who will be checking in with you and help you to stick to your routine. They may even join you in prayer and share their own experiences.
The goal of daily prayer is to deepen your relationship with God and ensure that your actions and thoughts are in line in accordance with His plans. It’s not about perfectionism or following a strict set of rules, it’s about being intentional and consistent in your life of faith. Therefore, make the effort to discover a prayer practice that works for you and incorporate it in your day-to-day life. You’ll be amazed by how much difference it makes for your spiritual development and overall health.
