It’s true that life is hectic and it’s easy to let prayer get lost on the list of priorities. But just like anything other thing worth having, it requires commitment and discipline. That’s where developing an effective prayer schedule comes in. It helps us establish a the structure and accountability needed to ensure that we’re in contact with God on a a regular basis.
How do you start? The first step is to decide the time of day that works best for you to pray. Some people prefer to start their day with prayer while others find it easier to pray at night before getting to bed. Try it out and discover what works for you.
Once you’ve identified the ideal time to pray, you can start building your daily routine. Here’s an example of a pattern that you can follow daily for morning prayers:
Begin by addressing God and asking for his help as you read and pray.
Go through a section of the Bible and reflect on it for a while. This can be accomplished by reading the passage three to four times, or listing everything it reveals about yourself, or the examples you can follow, instructions to obey or promises to keep.
Make your prayer a ritual by making confession, adoration prayer, thanksgiving, and petition. Prayerfully address your urgent needs and concerns, and take time to enjoy God’s presence.
The great thing about praying is that it is customizable to fit your needs. Some people may only have a few minutes to spare while others might have a half an hours or longer. The trick is to make it a consistent element of your day-to-day routine. And if you miss one or two days do not fret! Just get back on track the next day.
The practice of daily prayer is a great way to start this new year feeling a renewed feeling of purpose and feeling of connection to the divine. It’s a powerful method to start your day, putting your focus upon the Lord and making sure that your actions and thoughts are aligned to His plans.
Another method to improve your prayer practice is to enhance it by making it more engaging. Instead of simply reciting words, you should try to connect with God at a deeper level. Make use of your imagination and try to picture the scenes described within the Bible. Make an effort to experience the emotion of each character and place yourself in their the shoes of their characters. This can make your time in prayer more personal and meaningful.
You can also try incorporating various forms of prayer into your routine. For example, try silent prayer, contemplative prayer or even writing your prayers. This can keep your prayer routine from becoming monotonous and add some variety to your daily spiritual routine.
One of the best ways to remain motivated and on track with your daily prayer routine is sharing your practice with other people. Find a accountability partner, a family member or friend member who will be checking on you regularly and help you to stick to your routine. They can even join you in prayer and share their own experiences.
The goal of daily prayer is to increase your connection with God and align your thoughts and actions to His plan. It’s not about perfectionism or adhering to the strict rules, it’s about being deliberate and consistent in your life of faith. So, take the time to discover a prayer practice that you enjoy and incorporate it in your day-to-day life.
