That’s where developing a prayer routine comes in. It helps us establish a the structure and accountability needed to ensure we’re connecting with the divine on a regular basis.

How do you get started? It’s the first thing to do is determine what time of day works best for you to pray. Some prefer to begin their day with prayer and others prefer to pray in the evening before going to getting to bed. Test and see what works best for you.

Once you’ve identified the ideal time for prayer, you can start to establish a routine. Here’s an illustration of a typical daily routine for morning prayers:

Begin by talking to God to ask for his blessing as you read and pray.

Go through a section of the Bible and then meditate on it. It can be done by reading it three or four times or by listing anything it tells you about yourself, or examples to follow, commands to obey or promises to make.

Structure your prayer by praying for adoration, confession prayer, thanksgiving, and petition. Make a prayer for your urgent needs and concerns, and take time to sit in the presence of God.

The great thing about praying is that it is customizable to fit your needs. Some people may only have just a few minutes while others might have an time or even more. The trick is making it a constant part of your daily routine. If you fall off the occasional day or two do not fret! Just get back on track the following day.

A daily prayer practice is an excellent method to begin your new year off with a renewed feeling of purpose and spiritual connection with God. It’s a powerful way to begin your day by placing your attention upon the Lord and aligning your thoughts and actions to His plans.

Another way to enhance your prayer routine is to make it more interactive. Instead of just reciting words, try to engage with God at a deeper level. Make use of your imagination and try to picture the scenes described by the Bible. You can try to imagine the feelings of these characters and place yourself in their the shoes of their characters. This will make your prayer time more personal and meaningful.

Try incorporating different types prayers into your day-to-day routine. For example, try silent prayers, contemplative prayers, or even writing down your prayers. This can keep your prayer practice from becoming boring and will add the variety you need to your spiritual practice.

One of the best ways to remain engaged and focused on your prayer practice is by sharing the practice with other people. Find an accountability partner, a friend or family member who can check in with you and encourage you to stick to your routine. They can even be a part of your prayer and share their personal experiences.

The goal of daily prayer is to increase your connection with God and make sure that your thoughts and actions are aligned to His plan. It’s not about perfectionism or following an unwritten set of guidelines, but rather being consistent and deliberate in your daily spiritual practice. Take the time to create a routine of prayer that works for you and make it a priority in your daily life.
