The most challenging aspect of praying is making it a consistent element of our daily life. However, with a bit of planning and effort you can develop a prayer routine that works for you and your schedule. And the greatest part is that you get to customize it to fit your personality and your spiritual beliefs.
Let’s be real, life can be busy and it’s easy for prayer to slide off the list of priorities. However, just like everything other thing worth being a part of, it requires effort and discipline. This is where the creation of a prayer routine comes in. It provides structure and accountability to ensure we’re in contact with God on a a regular basis.
So, how do you start? The first step is to figure out the time of day that is most conducive to you to pray. Some people prefer to start their day with prayer and others prefer to pray before going to getting to bed. Try it out and discover which method works best for you.
Once you’ve determined the best time for prayer, you can start to build your routine. Here’s an illustration of a typical daily routine for prayer in the morning:
Begin by addressing God to ask for his help as you read and meditate.
Go through a section of the Bible and then meditate on the passage. This can be done by reading it three or four times or by listing the things it says about yourself, guidelines to follow or promises to claim.
Structure your prayer by making confession, adoration prayer, thanksgiving, and petition. Make a prayer for your immediate needs and worries, and take time to enjoy God’s presence.
The great thing about a prayer routine is that it’s customizable to fit your needs. For some, you may have only just a few minutes, while others may have a half an time or even more. It’s important that you make this a constant element of your day-to-day routine. If you don’t make it through one or two days do not fret! You can get back on track the next day.
The practice of daily prayer is a wonderful way to start this new year feeling a new sense of purpose and connection with the divine. It’s a powerful way to start your day, keeping your eyes to the Lord and making sure that your actions and thoughts are aligned in accordance with His plan.
Another method to improve your prayer time is to create a more engaging. Instead of simply reciting words, you should try to connect with God at a deeper level. Use your imagination and try to visualize the scenes within the Bible. Make an effort to experience the emotion of each character and put yourself in their shoes. This makes your time of prayer more personal and meaningful.
It is also possible to incorporate different types of prayer into your day-to-day routine. For example, try silent prayer, contemplative prayer or even writing down your prayers. This can keep your prayer practice from becoming boring and will add some variety to your daily spiritual routine.
One of the most effective methods to keep yourself focused and in line with your prayer practice is by sharing the practice with others. Find an accountability partner either a close friend or family member who will be checking on you regularly and help you to stick to your routine. They may even be a part of your prayer and share their personal experiences.
The goal of a regular prayer routine is to deepen your relationship with God and align your thoughts and actions in accordance with His plans. It’s not about perfectionism or adhering to the strict guidelines, but rather being intentional and consistent in your daily spiritual practice. Take the time to discover a prayer practice that is a good fit for you and incorporate it in your day-to-day life. You’ll be amazed by the difference it can make in your spiritual growth and overall well-being.
