The most challenging aspect of praying is to make it a regular part of our daily lives. However, with a bit of planning and effort it is possible to create an effective prayer schedule that works with your lifestyle and schedule. And the most appealing part is that you can customize it to match your own personality and spiritual tradition.
Let’s be real, life is hectic and it’s easy to let prayer slip down on the priority list. However, just like everything else worth having, it takes commitment and discipline. That’s where developing the habit of praying comes into. It gives an order and accountability to make sure we are in contact with God on a a regular basis.
So, how do you start? The first step is to decide which time of the day is most conducive to you to pray. Some prefer to begin their day with prayer while others prefer to pray at night before bed. Test and see what works for you.
After you’ve decided on the most appropriate time to pray, you can start building your daily routine. Here’s an illustration of a typical daily routine for morning prayer:
Begin by approaching God and asking for his blessing as you read and meditate.
Read a passage from the Bible and then meditate on it. This can be accomplished by reading it three or four times, or listing anything it tells you about yourself, or the examples you can follow, instructions to obey , or promises to claim.
Structure your prayer by praying for adoration, confession prayer, thanksgiving, and petition. Make a prayer for your immediate needs and worries and then take time to sit in the presence of God.
The best thing about praying is that it is customizable to suit your needs. For some, you may have only some minutes, while others may have an hours or longer. It’s important that you make this a regular part of your routine. And if you miss a day or two Don’t be concerned! You can get back on track for the next day.
An everyday prayer practice is an excellent way to start your new year off with a fresh feeling of purpose and connection with the divine. It’s a powerful method to start your day, keeping your eyes on the Lord and making sure that your actions and thoughts are aligned in accordance with His plan.
Another method to improve your prayer time is to enhance it by making it more engaging. Instead of simply reciting phrases, try engaging with God at a deeper level. Use your imagination and try to imagine the scenes that are described by the Bible. Make an effort to experience the emotion of each character and place yourself in their position. This makes your time of prayer more personal and meaningful.
Try incorporating different types in your prayer routine. For example, try a silent prayers, contemplative prayers, or even writing down your prayers. This can keep your prayer routine from becoming monotonous and add some variety to your daily spiritual routine.
One of the best ways to remain focused and in line with your daily prayers is sharing your practice with others. Find a partner in accountability, a friend or family member who will check in with you and help you to keep to your routine. They can even join you in prayers and share their own experiences.
Rememberthat the purpose of a regular prayer routine is to deepen your relationship with God and align your thoughts and actions with His will. It’s not about perfection or adhering to the strict rules, it’s about being consistent and deliberate in your spiritual life. Therefore, make the effort to discover a prayer practice that you enjoy and incorporate it in your daily life.
